[Transparent Comparadun]

Pattern Illustration
Transparent Comparadun
Tied by Ron Brown

Hook: #12 - 20 Dry
Thread: Color to match, 8/0
Tail: 6 microfibbets to match
Body: Lureflash, beaver dubbing to match
Wing: Deer hair to match

Tying Instructions:

1. Tie in thread at hook point.

2. Spin a very small amount of dubbing onto the thread and wrap it onto the hook just in front of the bend, creating a very small ball. Select 6 Microfibbets and tie them in midway up the hook and stop just short of the ball. Split the fibers evenly, separating them to each side. Wrap the thread the remainder of the way to the ball, keeping the fibbets separated.

3. Wrap thread to wing position. Clean and stack deer hair.

4. Tie in hair like a normal wing. Trim butts at an angle to help with body taper. Raise and fan the wing, and wrap thread in front to hold it up.

5. Wrap thread to rear of hook, tie in Lureflash. Thread to wing, follow with flash. Dub before and after the wing.

6. Finish and cement head.

Notes: The hardest part of tying comparaduns is getting the right hair to tie with. Most good comparadun hair is short and soft. If you can get a good piece of hair you will see that they are very easy to do. I do not use dyed deer hair. I use natural deer hair, dark or light depending on the over all color of the fly.
