Tying Instructions: 1. Tie in thread at hook eye and wrap to the hook midpoint. 2. Take small flank feather, concave side up, select barb approximately body length. Using bodkin, separate feather on both sides at selected barb. 3. Stroke feather barbs below selected barb against the grain. Strip filoplume, wet fingers and pull barbs toward base of stem. 4. Pull barbs forward and towards the center of the feather, creating a "canoe" shape. 5. Tie in flank feather, extended back over hook barb. Secure feather with 3 - 4 wraps. 6. Separate out appropriately wing-sized fibers from forwards facing barbs and pull upright. Cut feather stem. 7. Bind fibers to mid way between tie in point and hook eye. Pull fibers upright and tie up (Barbs will divide easily for divided uprights, if desired). 8. Wrap thread back to tie in point and tie in hackle. Advance thread to near eye. 9. Wrap hackle forward, 3 -4 wraps behind wing, 2 - 3 in front. Tie off hackle, trim, whip finish. |
