[Cat's Whisker]

Pattern Illustration
Cat's Whisker
Tied by Jason Tinling

Hook: Mustad 9672 #12
Thread: Black Danville 6/0
Body: Chartreuse ice chenille
Wing: White marabou
Weight: Beadchain

Tying Instructions:

1. Pinch barb from hook, place in vise.

2. Tie in thread at eye, wrap back to 1/4 point and build flat base.

3. Place a drop of superglue on threads, attach beadchain. Secure with figure 8 wraps and parachute* wraps.

4. Advance thread to barb of hook and tie in chenille.

5. Advance thread to beadchain and follow with chenille. Tie off chenille.

6. Invert hook in vise.

7. Tie in wing of marabou, moderately sparse, in front of beadchain. Length should be approximately to bend.

8. Tie off and whip finish. Coat exposed thread at head with cement or epoxy.

* = After finishing the standard figure eight wraps to secure the eyes, I wrap the thread under the eyes, but above the hook shank, around the thread base created by the figure eight wraps. This helps compact the figure eight wraps, and really keeps the eyes from moving.
