[Deer Hair Diver]

Deer Hair Diver
Tied by Bob Wiegers

Hook: #12 Streamer 4XL
Thread: Chartreuse Uni 3/0
Tail: Olive Marabou
Underwing: Olive Marabou
Wing: Olive Marabou with 4 strands gold flash
Overwing: Fl. Yellow deerhair
Head: Fl. Yellow deerhair spun & clipped to shape

Tying Instructions:

1. Secure thread to middle of hook, wrap to end.

2. Tie in a small bunch of marabou fibers for the tail. Tie in second and third bunches of marabou immediately in front of the preceding bunch. All 'bunches' are about shank-length.

3. Tie in the strands of gold flash. Tie in another small bunch of marabou.

4. Tie in a small, unstacked bunch of deerhair, tips over the bend, on top of the last bunch of marabou for the overwing. To avoid excessive flair, first wrap should be only snug, then two or three successively tighter wraps in front of the first wrap to anchor the hair on top of the hook and flair the butts.

5. Spin and pack deerhair on the remaining bare shank. Wrap a small head, and finish with whip or half-hitches.

6. Add a drop of head cement and trim spun head to desired diver shape. Avoid trimming off the overwing.

Notes:
This fly works well for me on the bluegills and yearling bass along the shoreline of the lake we frequent in Vermont. It has also taken a 4# bass from that same knee deep water. It should do the same just about anywhere.
