Hook: TMC 100 #12
Thread: Chartreuse 6/0
Body: Green Foam
Legs: Chartreuse/Silver flake SILI Legs
Wing: Deer Hair


Tying Instructions:

1. Tie in thread and cover hook from just under eye to hook bend.

2. Cut a 2" long piece of foam, about 1/16" thick.

3. Bend foam in half and place on hook, leaving the bent section of foam extended 1/2" past the end of hook.

4. Bind foam to hook to the eye, and wrap thread back to mid-point.

5. Tie in 2 legs, parallel to the hook shank.

6. Cut deer hair, stack and place with tips of the hair projecting over hook eye by about 1 1/2".

7. Advance thread to eye of hook, bind down deer hair and trim butts.

8. Wrap thread to mid point of hook, and tie in third leg, perpendicular to shank.

9. Fold deer hair back, and tie off at center of hook.

10. Whip finish and cement.


Notes:
The Cahaba X was adapted from a similar brown hopper pattern on the Little Cahaba River in Birmingham, AL. The change of the fly to chartreuse, favorite color of any southern fish, from brown with an added third SILI leg induced more strikes because of the overall attractant color and spider life around the stream bed. Favorite species caught on the Cahaba X is the native red eye bass of Alabama. Other species caught by the Cahaba X are bream, crappie, and largemouth.
