[Lady Bug]

Pattern Illustration
Lady Bug
Tied by Greg Lerch

Hook: Dry # 14 - 18
Thread: Black 6/0
Underbody: Peacock Herl
Body: Red craft foam
Misc.: Black acrylic paint

Tying Instructions:

1. Start thread at rear of hook, tie in herl above hook point.

2. Wind herl and thread to behind eye. Tie off, return hook to start point.

3. Cut a 1" x " strip of foam, taper one end.

4. Tie in foam, wind thread back to behind eye.

5. Pull foam forward, shellback style. Half hitch thread over foam, then bring thread in front of head and half hitch again. Whip finish or half hitch as preferred.

6. Using acrylic paint, apply small black dots on the back, and paint the head.

7. Apply finish if desired. 5 minute epoxy works, so does rod wrapping finish.

Note: The last two steps are probably unnecessary but make for a more attractive fly.
