New Zealand Ready

The New Zealand team arrived in India early yesterday afternoon, their plane touching down at Delhi International Airport in very warm conditions.

New Zealand manager Jim, Captain Stephen Fleming and the rest of the 'Brownshirts' squad were greeted and cheered by many cricket mad locals as they came through the doors of customs, adding floral wreaths around their necks.

At one point security had trouble guiding the team through the crowd to the waiting team bus, but plenty of autographs were signed for youngsters on miniature bats by the players in the meantime.

The team then made a short journey south to Agra in the splendid settings of the Raj and Viceroy Hotel where they will be based for the duration of the six team tournament. It was in the lobby of this majestic hotel that the 'Brownshirts' held a brief press conference in front of a lifesize golden elephant and flowing waterfall.

The Kiwi management was asked how well prepared they were for this tournament, "ready and raring to go, we've got the team we need to get the job done and all the fellas are positive, keen and motivated" said the manager.

The Kiwi team was reminded of the bitter disappointment of last year when the 'Brownshirts' missed out by the slimmest of margins to the West Indies. Both captain and manager emphasised that the squad was more determined than ever to get into the final this time round and was ready to do what was necessary to ensure they weren't left wondering again.

"It hurt" said Manager Jim bringing the conversation back to the final day of the tournament in 2004. "The team was quiet for a long time, even on the flight home the disappointment was palpable, we'll put it right this time though..."

New Zealand get a chance to gain a bit of revenge in their first game when they take on old rivals, and last years champions Australia in the expected sweltering Bombay sun. Captain Fleming is sure each side will give their all in a tough contest, but is also confident his team will prevail.
