Last Days of Atlantis

Master Koffimanu looked towards the sky, seeking a confirmation of what he had seen in his Inner Experience. Yes, they would definitely have to leave this world. The Government of Atlantis had approved the proposals for the genetic experiments for special pets: Half-man half animals. He had warned of grave consequences but was accused of being old-fashioned. As the Chancellor of the UnifaCity of Atlantis he felt that it was his duty to warn that the world was about to be destroyed.
He inaugurated a special team of scientists to draw up the plan for the evacuation of the
world. Among them was Ogun, a metallurgist specialising in spaceship metals.
There was a zoologist among the team: Aymara Dudu. She recommended that the genetic sample of every animal and insect should be collected and warehoused for evacuation. When they arrive at the New World, the animals could be re-generated. Chinaka was the Meditator. He was assigned the task of predicting the consequences of the impact of the Asteroid that was sure to strike Atlantis. He was to work alongside Ozovehe, a mathematical modellist. Sambo was the interstellar geographer. He had located a planet in the system of the brightest star in the sky: to be known as Palm Tree. His choice of the name Palm Tree was based on the fact that a palm tree easily fits into the diagram of an elliptical orbit.

Chinaka saw that the world was going to be covered by a flood. Ozovehe did a computer simulation
that showed the impossibility of rain flooding the world. But with the momentum of the arriving asteroid, Atlantis would fragment partly into continents and sink, leading to a Flood. The sky would be saturated with particles that would allow the red coulour of the sky to appear only at sunrise at sunset; for most of the day, the sky would appear blue
Chinaka saw that a particular set of dark-skinned people; with pointed nose and straight hair will change to albinos and begin to live in caves. Aymara projected that if dark-skinned people living under the sea were cut off from sunlight for many generations, their pigmentation would reduce and recede.

Master Koffimanu compiled their research findings and submitted a Proposal for Evacuation to the Premier of Atlantis; Kunta Kongo. The following day, he went straight to the Premier's Office. "Nice to see you again Koffimanu. I have read your report and I really think you and your researchers should find something better to do." Koffimanu tried to explain things to the Premier.
"Look here Koffimanu, you are entitled to your fantasies. If people feel that they want to go off to another planet, there is no problem about that. But to evacuate the entire world? I am sure that our Intersteller Navy can take care of any problem from the sky."

Two years later, the spaceship Akenova was ready for take off. Koffimanu had been nicknamed: the blabbler.
A large crowd gathered round Terminal 22 to witness the take-off of Spaceship Akenova. From inside the ship, he could see the crowd far off at the perimeter of the Terminal. He came to the outer door of the ship and announced through a loudspeaker, that there was room for more people. There was a loud sigh from the crowd but no one came forward. He went back in and the shut the air-locks.
The pilot announced the departure to the crew and passengers, then revved up the anti-gravity engines. By his calculations, they would take off shortly before the asteroid appeared in the sky.
