Specific Instructional Objective :

Pupils should be able to use graphic organizers to prepare for writing a Composition

Efficiently and with understanding.

Teaching Materials : Transparency , Computer , Creative writer CD-ROM , Reading passage

Instructional Strategies:

Introduction: Teacher assesses the students ‘ prior knowledge and experiential

background about the relationship between man and his so called best

friend – the dog. Teacher gives students time to brainstorm, categorize and

prioritize the knowledge their have about the concept.

Steps:

  1. Teacher represents this knowledge visually for students which would give students an overview and preparation for reading & writing a composition so that they can make connections between what they read or heard and the information that was introduced on the organizer.
  2. ( Planning Organizer )

  3. Teacher gives the students a passage to read.
  4. Teacher invites the students to list the cycle of events as they occurred in sequence in their respective groups.
  5. Teacher and students will engage in a lively discussion about "what happened next" and would be encouraged to go back to the story to verify their responses.
  6. Teacher then asks the students to write summary statements and illustrations to match. ( Cyclical Organizer with illustration )
  7. Students will use their graphic organizer to retell the story in their own words. This method would ensure that all children will understand the story thoroughly.
  8. Students will have practised oral speaking skills too with this method.
  9. Now teacher gives the students a Composition Worksheet. Students are supposed to write a composition titled ‘ A day out with my Dog’. Students will be reminded that their ideas should be original & different from the reading passage which was given to them earlier.
  10. With the use of the ‘Creative Writer’ & the computer the students will be asked to type out their Composition.

Conclusions

Teacher shows a cyclical organizer which she had created about a story of her own based on the same Composition title in sequence in a circular formation.

Review:- Students were able to write a good Composition due to all the practice they had earlier on. They

enjoyed typing out the Composition with the use of the ‘Creative Writer’.
