Instructional Strategies

  1. Teacher gets pupils to form groups of fours. Then, get the pupils to use straws of two different
  2. lengths to make triangles. Pupils record their responses on their notebook.

  3. Teacher asks, " How many different triangles can you make with the straws?" Teacher then records the different responses on the whiteboard.
  4. Teacher asks, " Which triangles have two equal sides?" and " Which triangles have three
  5. equal sides?" Teacher elicits the names of such triangles from the pupils.

  6. Teacher gets pupils to list some of the properties they already know about such above triangles. Then teacher informs pupils that they will use the courseware, " Zarc’s Primary Mathematics Adventure 5B" to (I) find out more about these two triangles and (II) to solve simple problems involving such triangles.
  7. Teacher demonstrates how to sign-in :
  8. -- At the Kid’s Desk, look for " Zarc’s ….5B" and click on it

-- Type name and click on the button with the green hand

-- After Prince Zarc’s introduction, click on him

-- On the map, select "Triangles" and then " Isosceles and Equilateral Triangles"

-- Then, click on "Presentation" to complete the first task (i.e. to find out more about the isosceles

triangles and equilateral triangles) and record the information on their notebook

-- To listen to the presentation again, select either "1", "2" , "3" or "4" for the different part of the

    presentation

    -- Then, click on "Close"

-- Select "Exercise" and teacher demonstrates and discuss the first two problems with the class

  9. Teacher gets the monitors to collect the coursewares and gets the pupils started on the tasks
