Instructional Strategies

Pre-Instructional Activities - Think Pair Share

Pupils will be asked to show their partner the empty snack wrappers ( bearing pictures of any creatures e.g. prawns, lobsters or crabs etc. ) that they have collected.
In pairs, they are to discuss the possible dangers of touching the creatures.

Instructional Activities

Refer to pg. 20 - 21 of the Coursebook.
Talk about the pictures.

For example:

Do you know what this is ? Have you ever seen it before ?

Where have you seen it ? Have you ever touched it with your hands ?

Is it safe to touch it ? Why ?

Warn pupils of possible danger of touching any living creatures they are not sure of.

For example:

Keep away ! It's poisonous.

Watch out ! It'll bite. You must not touch it.

Be careful! It's got a sharp sting.

Write examples of warnings on the board.

For example:

Keep away! It has sharp claws.

Be careful! It stings.

Read them with the class.

Post-Instructional Activities

Group 1
Send a problem ( teacher to assist the weaker group of pupils )

Pupils will be grouped into five groups of fours.
They will write the problem guided as follows :

If you see a friend touching ________________(creature), you'll warn him or her like this :_______________________________________________________________

Group 2

IT hands-on sessions

Pupils will search for the animals listed in the IT worksheet using the CD-Rom.

After 20 minutes, the two groups will swap their activities.

Presentation

The teacher will appoint a leader from each group to present their answers.

Seat work

Pupils will complete Pets LU 1 & 2 worksheet independently.
