Instructional Strategies
1. In pairs, pupils brainstorm and come up with vocabulary associated with disasters. As the teacher elicits responses from the pupils, she types them into a PowerPoint document which is printed out and copies made for all pupils to aid them in their written work. Teacher ensures that the class comprehends the meanings of the words.
2. Pupils to predict what will happen at the scene of the disaster created using Storybook Weaver Deluxe. They answer the following questions found on page 68 of PETS Coursebook 6B:
a: What are the different types of disaster shown on these pages?
b: What happens during a disaster like an earthquake, a fire, a flood?
3. In groups, pupils to choose one of the disasters and role-play the following:
4. i. Pupils to write a short paragraph based on the story starters.
ii. Pupils to use the open tool to create a scene of disaster and write a short paragraph based on it
Follow-up Activities
Pupils should be able to write a narrative text based on another story starter or another created scene of disaster.
