Pupils are able to

  1. use picture cut-outs (or other manipulatives) to illustrate the meaning of multiplication.
  2. work out multiplication facts by repeated addition.
  3. write number sentences for given situations involving multiplication.

Instructional Strategies

Get the class to form groups of 4 – Trigger Activity, get 2 pupils to brainstorm and come out with a list of things that come in pairs, threes, fives and tens. Get them to share within their groups after 15 mins.

Get pupils to stand in front of the class and ask the class to add their hands, ears, legs, etc. Pupils

can also add other objects available e.g. buttons, legs of desks, blades of fans etc.

To continue with this activity to let pupils know that multiplication is repeated addition.

Explain to pupils that they are going to sequence the multiplication tables using the sequencing

Activity found in the courseware ‘Mighty Maths Carnival Countdown – Snap Clowns’

Get pupils to do Ex 31 of Maths Workbook 2A Part 2 as follow-up activity.
