They must have knowledge of the "search" function of the software

Specific Instructional Objectives

Pupils show the ability to fill in the correct spelling in the worksheets given using the "Amazing Dictionary" as a source of reference.

  1. Courseware: My Amazing Dictionary

Learning Environment

Computers with CD-ROM drive

Instructional Strategies

  1. Teacher to get pupils to work in pairs. The task is to name some common vegetables. Give them some time to come up with the names. Teacher could show an example of a vegetable if necessary.
  1. Pupils give the teacher examples of common vegetables.

Teacher to type using PowerPoint and display slide containing these names.
  1. Teacher to guide pupils with the pronunciation and spelling of these words e.g.

carrots.

  1. Next using the software, My Amazing Dictionary, teacher demonstrates how to search for a particular word. Pupils to follow the teacher’s sequence for the search.
  2. Give them the worksheets. Pupils to search for the names of vegetables given using the pictorial clues. They complete the spelling of the word individually.

 

Extension Activity

Brighter pupils who have completed their tasks earlier could be asked to search for names of fruits using the courseware to prepare them for the next lesson on the topic.
