Subject : Art and Crafts

Topic : Design – Shapes and Colours

Level : Primary 1

Duration : 1 hour (2 periods)

Specific Instructional Objectives :

Pupils will be able to

  1. Develop their skill in navigating the mouse
  2. Name the cool colours and warm colours
  3. Create a simple design with related or contrasting shapes
  4. Get familiar with the tools in the courseware – SHAPES, FILL and CRAYON

Instructional Strategies:

Introduction

  1. Powerpoint Presentation to act as introduction – attention grabber (Kids to sit on floor in front of screen )
  2. Ask children what they understand by the term ‘warm’ and ‘cool’ colours
  3. Show children some samples of what they will be doing in class today

 

 

 

Development Activities :

Children to access Crayola Paint Program.

(Teachers need to recap the procedure of accessing Crayola and saving their

pieces)

Actual Lesson – Pair Work

  1. Teach children how to use the tools - SHAPES, FILL and CRAYON
  2. Practise forming geometric shapes using SHAPES
  3. Practise flipping over the motif
  4. Practise filling in a shape with colours

Children to start creating their pieces with their partners.

Children can create pieces that involve one or many different shapes.

They are to colour their designs too.

Once finished, children can print out their creations.

If there is extra time, they can create their own pieces.

Conclusion :

Pupils to select one completed design from the class and give one reason why they like that particular piece.
