Instructional Strategies

1 Recapitulate what pupils had learnt in previous lesson on the importance of reproduction in animals. Ask pupils what would happen if animals die without reproducing?

Ans: They would become extinct.

2 Introduce and define the term 'extinct'.

Differentiate the term 'extinct' from 'endangered'.

3 Pair up pupils. Number them 1 and 2.

4 Distribute CD-ROM Animals 2.0. Pupils numbered 1 to navigate the courseware while Pupils numbered 2 to jot down notes after discussing the topics together.

Tell pupils to click on the Main Menu. Go to Research Centre.

5 Click on Director's message. Read the report on how animals become extinct and why it is necessary to ensure that they continue to reproduce.

Complete Questions 1-2 of Worksheet 1.

6 Click on Areas of Research. Pupils to read up text on the strategies used to ensure better success rate of reproduction among endangered species.

Complete rest of the questions in Worksheet 1.

7 Click on Captive Breeding. Complete Worksheet 2.

8 After 20 minutes, go through the worksheets with pupils. Pupils numbered 2 to provide feedback.

9 Follow-up activity:

Get pupils to create a scrapbook on Endangered Species of Animals by importing pictures from the courseware. Teacher to show pupils how to import pictures from the courseware to Microsoft Word.
