Instructional Strategies

1. Pupils to work in pairs on the worksheet, which revises the part-whole concept. [10 min]

2. Tell pupils the purpose of using the courseware (i.e. to see how part-whole is represented in a pie chart). Also need to briefly explain what a spreadsheet is as this will be covered in the courseware as well. Pupils are to go to 'Tutorial', then select 'No.3, Cruncher Bars'. Get pupils to work in pairs, one is to change the number of health bars sold (from 10 to 30 to 50) and the other is to note changes relative to others in the pie chart. [10min]

3. The pair then discusses on how they reproduce as accurately as they could the pie charts on the worksheet. [25min]

4. Pupils do workbook exercise 1 individually. [10min]
