Pupils should be able to:-

Extract and describe the setting using the visual aid (picture of the bay)

2) Plan a draft by using the sub-headings given to write in pairs a narrative composition of the adventure.

1) Courseware: Enid Blyton’s The Famous Five ‘The Treasure Island’

Type: Multimedia Story book

Characteristics: It has five modes: reading, editing, spelling, cloze passage, vocabulary. Reading section allows the pupils to read with intonation, fluency and rhythm. Editing and spelling section allows pupils to rectify mistakes in spelling and punctuation. Children are able to use the appropriate words to fill in the cloze passage. Pupils to read and choose the correct meaning to match the given words.

Instructional Strategies

Teacher to arouse pupils’ interest by showing some books on adventure. Teacher to elicit some background knowledge from pupils what adventure stories they have read/watched.

2) Pre-writing

Children to read silently the first chapter of the story.

In pairs, children to extract and jot down the descriptive words/vocabulary of the bay and the surroundings (setting of the incident and its exact location)

3) Brainstorming

Children to go to ‘Closer Look’ and use the sub-headings as the main ideas to develop the story.

e.g. A visit to the Island

What the storm did

Exploring the wreck

What was discovered

Rescue plan/ narrow escape

4) Writing Activity

Go to ‘Writer’s workshop’ and create a face of any of the characters in their story.

Children to develop the main ideas they have listed in complete sentences.

5) Follow-up activity

Children to do peer editing on their first draft. Teacher to edit the content of the story.
