Sex Shop Raided a Day After Opening

PHNOM PENH (Reuters) - Cambodian police raided the country's only sex shop a day after it opened on Tuesday and confiscated dozens of items, saying they were a danger to women and a threat to Cambodian society.

The Chinese owner of the Phnom Penh shop, 38-year-old Yuan Genxing, was arrested and later charged with debauchery under laws on sex trafficking, said Municipal Court Prosecutor Sok Saroeun, who took part in the raid.

Police carted away boxes of rubber penises and vaginas, condoms, batteries and assorted Chinese aphrodisiacs.

``These things are dangerous to Cambodian women's health and Cambodian culture,'' local police Chief Yim Symany told Reuters at police headquarters.

``This is very dangerous -- look how large those rubber penises are,'' he said.

``There is also medicine to keep sex going longer. If people use this medicine, it could be dangerous for them.''

Yuan Genxing faces up to 15 years in jail if convicted. ''I have preliminarily charged him with debauchery. According to Cambodian law, this is unacceptable. It is against Cambodian law,'' Sok Saroeun told Reuters.
