Christian Love Strikes Again

BRETT Beasley hasn't made much progress in his campaign to persuade his cousin, Rev. Jerry Falwell, to publicly support the fight against AIDS. But openly gay Beasley's modeling career seems to have taken off. Beasley, who's already appeared in the Advocate and POZ magazines, is baring all for a spread in the May issue of MEN, and will appear with another male model on the cover of a new Liberation Publications magazine titled. "I'm sure my cousin is probably aware of it," said Beasley, 40, who learned he was HIV-positive last year. After reaching out to the Tinky Winky-bashing televangelist for support, Beasley got an e-mail via his parents expressing Falwell's "total support for Brett in praying for his healing and in administering any counseling or other help we are capable of providing." But when Beasley asked Falwell to publicly acknowledge his condition and raise awareness of AIDS, the Rev. declined, saying, "God would not be pleased with this." Falwell didn't want to create a "media circus" around what he called Beasley's "HIV problem." "He's more or less blowing me off," said Beasley. Repeated attempts by PAGE SIX to reach Falwell were unsuccessful. Beasley said he will wage a media campaign himself to raise awareness about the disease, and perhaps shame Falwell into participating.
