Mother.s Day Celebrations :D
The big finally came and we tried our best to make it a memorable one. Although, throughout the night, we had some little problems and were a bit hasty with the programs, I am sure that most of us had enjoyed that night. Our mother.s day celebration hit off with a warm welcome from our students at the front door. The parents were then personally ushered into the classroom, which we have cleaned, mopped, swept, tidied and decorated beautifully beforehand. Parents were then given their door gift and were seated on the chairs that were arranged neatly by the sides. While waiting for the other parents?arrival, we played a ten-minute slideshow with pictures of their daughters for them. Of course, at that moment, all of us were trying to help prepare the other venues properly so that the programs would run smoothly.
When the parents were all here, we brought them to the next venue! And that is?the ECO-POND! Most of you may think that there is not really much you can do there due to the limited space; however, we have managed to hold a contest between pairs of mothers and daughters. A pair would consist of a mother and her daughter and five pairs were invited up on that small space in front of the pond. All of them were given a small white board and a marker. At first, they were clueless about what to do but after hearing the instructions, some of them felt that the contest was a piece of cake for them. Questions like what is your daughter.s favorite color?were read out in front of everyone and both the mother and daughter were supposed to write their answers on the white boards. Of course, some people may cheat and therefore will be eliminated from the contest. One of the pairs was really concentrated on their game and hence won the first prize. Nevertheless, it is alright to lose the contest. After all, it is just a game. :D
After the two contests held at the eco-pond. I was very sure that everyone was hungry as it was already eight in the night, which is one hour after most of our dinnertimes. Therefore, the parents were then ushered back into the classroom and they had their meal prepared by our students! Of course, the parents had the priority to take their fill first and the students of One SY, although hungry, had no choice but to wait by sitting on the floor. Finally, we had our turn to eat and most of us rushed the food upon the signal from our class representatives. We laughed while we ate and joked with one another and I must say that this celebration had indeed made our class more bonded. Oh and there.s only one word to describe the food ?DELICIOUS.
After our meal, the parents were then again brought out to the area just outside our classroom and everyone was given a song sheet of lyrics. Then, some music was played and some of our students swayed with the music. It was supposed to be a sing-along for the parents with their daughters, so that they can take this opportunity to bond with their own children. However, it ended up that most of the parents were not as enthusiastic and we thought, so the students of One SY sang very loud and very strong together. We sang like never before and sang to our heart.s content. Indeed, we had much fun singing and singing! Of course, good times do not really last for long and although we tried to repeat the song again and again, we realized that there was not enough time for other programs if we continued repeating the songs. Therefore, we began our next activity!
Our students then quickly went back into class and each took out a piece of paper before their parents. We all stood in front of our mothers and read out the Mother.s Day Letter, which we have all prepared beforehand, both marked and corrected by our form teacher. Although some of us just gave the letter to our parents instead of reading it out, it does not really matter, as it is really the thought that counts. I am sure that many parents would have been touched by this gesture. After we had given our parents the letter, it was time to bring on the next event.
We all took a basin of water before our parents. Initially, our parents were surprised by our actions. However, we later explained to them that our form teacher first initiated this gesture and we told them about such cases in other countries. What we actually wanted to do was to wash our parents feet! This may appall many of you but I can tell you that this is common in other countries as it is considered as an act of filial piety. Furthermore, I am sure that our parents have enjoyed it as well and that we should use this opportunity to appreciate what they have done for us.
By then, it was already around nine in the night and it was time for the party to end. Some of the parents were called up to meet our form teacher so that they did not have to come the following day, which was more convenient for everyone. So, most of the parents were up to the staff room to meet the form teacher. Some of us were feeling a little sad about it because we had so much fun during the celebration. Others, however, were eager and excited to go back. Oh well, I think that different people have different views about the celebration anyway. =) Some of us who stayed back helped out to push the tables and chairs back to the original places and that is very commendable as others were just leave the school without helping out. After we had done everything, we were offered some cake and some of us went practically wild! We were having some much so fun screaming and shouting in the classroom that we did not realized that it was already ten in the night, which was really late already.
Therefore, most of the people left and the only some students stayed back. Soon, the celebration mood was over and it was a little sad to leave the place. Later in the night, most of the people left and it was up to the few of us to lock up the classroom of One SY. Some of us even had to ask the security guard to borrow our classroom keys to lock it. It was pretty dark already and it was quite scary to be walking such a long distance with only a few friends by your side. Therefore, the celebration started slowly and ended hastily. It was a great eye-opener for me and I had definitely enjoyed myself. What about the rest of you? (:
