SPORTS DAY :D

On the 13th of April, 2007, Friday, we had our sports day! It was held at Toa Payoh stadium. Upon the arrival of all the pupils, the march past started. This year, the marching contingent was commanded by MSG Cherie Chong, from the NCC. All the participants of the march past were neatly arranged, and we even saw the three representatives of our class, namely Natasha, Deborah Mun and Stephanie marching past.

After a few races, it started to drizzle. But because there was no storm, the races were continued.

After a long wait, it was time for the 4 x 100m relay. The representatives of our class were Melissa, Jia Li, Priscilla and Wen Hui. We all know that they had been working very hard for the past few weeks. They practiced everyday before school, during recess and even after school! During the race, they ran as fast as they could. Unfortunately, they did not make it to the top 3. But it does not matter, as we all know that they did their best and we thank them all for working so hard.

Shortly after, the sun started shining again and we saw a rainbow which was right above the stadium. However, we apologise for being unable to take a clear photo of the rainbow.

After all the races, we were asked to sit in the field to have our attendance taken. We sat under the hot sun throughout the whole prize giving ceremony but we are happy to say that Debbie got the individual prize for the whole Sec 1 cohort. Before that, she achived the 1st place for the 'C' division long jump. Congratulations to Debbie!

Furthermore, we won the 4 x 400m race. Our representatives were Julia, YuHan, Joanna and Debbie (again). We got 2nd place ! Three cheers for all 1 SYsians! Hooray!

Inter-class Captain's Ball Competition

The inter-class captain's ball competition was very exciting as we saw many of our peers putting their best foot forward, determined in getting the best for the class. In the end, we got 3rd position out of all the 7 classes in the Sec 1 cohort. Good job everyone and keep this spirit going for other class events in the future!

Fire Drill

The fire drill took many of us by surprise and as we lined up and waited anxiously for the announcement of the venue and route to take, we were all very excited. Although we spent a long period of time under the scorching sun, perspiring and complaining about the insects, we have to admit we learnt a lot from it like what to do in the event of a real fire and we're sure that you will have more confidence during a real fire and line up in an orderly manner. All in all, it was a worthwhile experience. (:

The Trial

The trial has been very out of the ordinary over two weeks. Many of us contributed a lot to enable this to be carried out. During the trial, we have witnessed the professionalism of all our friends. We have also had a lot of fun moments throughout the trial. The court case was very real and believable and most of us might have even believed that we are in a real court, with lawyers with high qualifications. Although the defence won, I am sure that we have had an enjoyable learning experience and great time throughout the case!

Sports Personality of the month

Every month from now on, we will elect a sports personality for the month. Anyone can be the sports personality for the month! It all depends on what personalities you possess. (:

Criteria:
1. Active/enjoys sports.
2. Having done kind deeds to others.
3. Instilling the right morals in others.
4. Having shown leadership potential.
5. Having sportsmanship.
6. A self-sacrificing spirit for others.

These are the criteria for being a sports personality. As all of you can see, a sports personality is not about just being good in sports. A sports personality is one who is also kind, helpful and having leadership potential. Everyone has a chance to be one of the sports personalities of the month. So, try your best to fit the criteria needed to be the sports personality of the month. (:

This month's sports personality is none other than DEBBIE LYNN SIEW WAI-TENG!!! Congratulations to Debbie!

The following is an interview conducted by us specially for Debbie:

Us: Debbie, would you mind telling us your favourite sport?
Debbie: Of course I won't mind! I would like to say figure skating, even though I do not learn it, as it is just so amazing how pro skaters can twirl and jump on the ice.

Us: So Debbie, what do you hope to achieve in sports in your Secondary School?
Debbie: I hope to be able to represent the school in the Nationals and win points for it. *smiles

Us:
Would you have studied in the sports school rather than SC?

Debbie: No, because SC also has dance which is my CCA and I have already grown rather accustomed to being a SC girl.

Us: Oh, Debbie, what would you have considered your greatest achievement in sports?

Debbie: Getting 8 th place in Nationals High Jump for SC Primary.

Us: Debbie, what do you consider as an ideal sports personality?

Debbie: Someone who never gives up and pushes herself beyond the LIMIT!

Us: Would you mind naming your favourite PE teacher?

Debbie: Mrs Bowness, as she is encouraging but firm, and brings out the best in her students.

Us: And Debbie, all of us are dying to know what the lowest grade that you had ever gotten for PE was.

Debbie: Haha. A. (:

Due to time constrains, the interview with Debbie had to end. We are very sorry to her avid fans and those who adore her (: but we hope that you had a greater insight into our SPORTS PERSONALITY OF THE MONTH!
Debbie (:

We also hope that more of you will strive to be the sports personality of next month
