Our Inheritance
Ephesians 1:3-14
Today we will talk about our righteousness in Christ. Many times Pastors and Bible Teachers tell us to be holy and righteous just as Jesus is. However, when we start talking and acting righteous those same leaders cry foul. They start claiming that we cant be like Jesus. THIS IS JUST A PLOY TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OVER CONGREGATIONS! I want you to understand your position in him.
As always, you can send questions, comments, and prayer requests to me at [email protected]s prayfather, I thank you for this time of study. I ask that you open the eyes of understanding of those who read this and help them to become all that you want them to be. Amen.
You will find that reading this particular passage in the King James Version will make some things clearer to you. However, use whatever translation you are most comfortable with. Here we go.
Verse 3: In the KJV we see Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. In Hebrew the word blessed translates as being happy. So, this reads Happy is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God, our father, is happy to be our father and to do for us whatever needs to be done. As we continue we see that the father has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places. We belong to Jesus if we have entered into covenant with him. That is to choose to walk with him. This also means that whatever the father has given him belongs to us. If you have been a Christian awhile you know some of the blessings that are yours just for being a Christian.
Verses 4-8: God chose us to be in him long before our parents ever thought about getting married and having children. He sees us as perfect, without fault, blemish, or blame (see Jeremiah 29:11-14.) We see in detail his love for us. (Isaiah 53) What our father had to approve in order to bring us into a right relationship with him was a horrible, terrifying thing, but necessary.
Verses 11: (If you have an NIV Bible read this passage in that translation. I call this the In Him passage.) In this passage we see what the Lord gave us. Not only did he give us an inheritance, he accepted us as his inheritance! This is a true living will. As long as we remain in him the things that follow are ours. You can read those things for yourself. Does this excite you? It should!
Verses 11-14: It is his good pleasure to give us an inheritance! In verse 14 we see that he sealed the deal by planting the Holy Spirit in us. This is the indwelling spirit of the Lord. This is different than the infilling spirit. We will deal with that at another time. I will say this being baptized in the spirit and being in filled are the same thing. It has to do with power. Infilling is how our spiritual battery stays charged.
Some of you out there are not sure whether or not you are a child of the Lord. If, in the past, you have made a profession of faith, then you are his! Even if you arent really walking in the path he chose for you. Its not a matter of how you feel, its fact! Thank the Lord for loving you! Keep on keeping on. He is walking right beside you.
Some of you feel the tug of the Spirit on your heat. (You may not realize that is what it is, but it is!) Now is the time to step into his love! I am going to give you a model prayer to say that will help you connect to him. You can modify it to fit how you speak. You can say whatever is on your heart.
Father, I come to you today, knowing that I am a sinner and that I need you. My life is a mess and I dont know what to do. Help me to be what you want me to be. I give you total control of my life. Help me to walk in your ways and receive your love. Amen.
Those of you who have made a decision to follow Jesus write and tell me about it.([email protected]) For those of you who are looking for a good church home go to the church page at my web site.
