Rain
A quick spring rain
Came to the warm day,
Soaking us and making us laugh
As we played together under the gray sky.
Only a moment in the afternoon,
And soon it would pass.
Lightning like diamonds
Painted the horizon.
Distant thunder rumbled
Above the scattering
Of raindrops on salty rooftops
Like Tibetan monks chanting in adulation.
It stirred the hopes of the mud toads
Asleep in their catacombs under the soil
Where they passed the endless drought
Dreaming of cool and silent rivers.
My love and I touch and kiss
Then go indoors to please each other.
