Nothing Ever Stays

Do you ever think of me kindly?

Do you ever whisper my name?

I don't know how to play the rules

Of this crazy, mixed-up game.

I hear you breathing softly at night,

When I know you are not there;

And sometimes I can smell your scent

Drifting on the morning air.

And oftentimes when I get lonely

I catch myself calling your name,

But you will never come running.

Nothing ever stays the same.
