| Over the next few years, his drinking and drug use became so bad that Michelle chose to stop visiting him. She had learned about drinking and driving in school, and realized that her daddy could wreck. Therefore, she didn�t want to be in the car with him. He insisted he didn�t drink and drive, but I told him I wasn�t going to force her to ride in a car if she didn�t feel safe. I offered to bring her to him for day visits, but he felt he had the right to relax with a beer and definitely wasn�t going to stop drinking just because he had Michelle. He thought that if she didn�t want to ride in the car with him, then she must not want to visit him. I finally got married to Joe when Michelle was 6 years old. A couple years later, after our marriage Tom let Joe adopt Michelle. I think Tom finally realized he couldn�t give Michelle the life or love she deserved. I will always be grateful to Tom for showing me that I was worthy of respect. I only wish I could have helped him as much as he helped me. I will always believe that he could have been a great man if he hadn't lost his battle with alcohol and drugs. |
