Ah, Easter is apon us and snow is on the ground. I tease my kids that we don't have to color eggs, because it will be more of a challenge to find them in the snow uncolored.
The weather seems to be moving along the calendar, yet people stick with celebrating the seasons based on the months and not the weather. Now I know about the religious connections to the hiliday, but I don't see why the need for spring colors and spring flowers, if you are not also celebrating the season with the holiday. I mean, can you not worship and change the clothing to suit the weather? Why insist on spring dresses and Easter bonnets, when the weather calls for winter coats and hats? Why buy bloomed spring flowers, when the bulbs are still frozen in the ground? If the holiday were purely religious, then these things would not be so important.
Yet, even when looking at the season from the Pagan point of view, I get confused. They are celebrating the coming of the season, but still stick to the calendar and don't just watch the seasons and Mother Nature for the time to celebrate. Now grant it they have a window of time they celebrate in. But why have dates when it is suposed to be a celebration of the season and time of year? Why not let nature tell you when it is Spring, instead of a calendar?
Will I ever understand the holidays?
