Lessley Genealogy - Researching a Branch of the Lessley Family Tree

I am researching the Lessley/Lesley family that originated in South Carolina and went from there to Missouri, Arkansas, and on to the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma, with some going to yet other places such as Texas and California.

Lessley Ancestry

George Lessley was born in the mid to late 1700s, most likely in England or North Carolina. He married Rebecca ?. Their children that I know of are:
  1. Samuel Lessley
  2. Mary Lessley
  3. James J. Lessley
  4. Thomas H. Lessley, born about 1807 in Lincoln County, NC. Source: The IGI at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Thomas married Elizabeth Neale.
Thomas H. Lessley and Elizabeth Neale were the parents of at least 4 children, and there may have been more. Their children I have listed are:
  1. Rebecca Lessley
  2. Louisa I. Lessley
  3. William Robert Lessley
  4. Adam Jeff Lessley*
Adam Jeff Lessley was born in June 1846 in Cape Girardeau Co MO. He married 1st Samantha Penn. After Samantha's death, he married Fannie P. Lyman. My source of information is the copy I have where, in 1900, Adam applied to be accepted into the Cherokee Nation in Tahlequah as an Intermarried White (Fannie was 1/16 Cherokee and she and Adam's children are listed on the Dawes Rolls). I have extensive Indian information re: Fannie & her ancestors if you are interested. Children of Adam Jeff Lessley and Fannie P. Lyman are:
  1. Thomas Franklin Lessley. Cherokee Nation, Cherokee Roll #2767. Thomas was born 1881 and he married Mollie ?.
  2. Robert L. Lessley. Cherokee Nation, Cherokee Roll #2760. Robert was born about 1884.
  3. Bertha L. Lessley. Cherokee Nation, Cherokee Roll #2761. Bertha was born about 1887.
  4. Elby F. Lessley. Cherokee Nation, Cherokee Roll #2762. Elby was born about 1891.
  5. Ester C. Lessley. Cherokee Nation, Cherokee Roll #2763. Ester was born about 1891.
  6. Julian Wesley Lessley. Cherokee Nation, Cherokee Roll #2764. Julian was born about 1895.
  7. David E. Lessley. Cherokee Nation, Cherokee Roll #2765. David was born about 1897.
  8. Bonnie Mae Lessley. Cherokee Nation, Cherokee Roll #2766. Bonnie was born Sept. 16, 1900. She married James Wesley (Jim) Thompson in Fort Smith, Arkansas in 1916.
