Give your child a menu from a local restaurant.  Ask your child to use the menu to plan a family dinner.  Then, encourage your child to compute the total cost.  He/she may use a calculator to check his/her answer.
Fill a jar with beans, marbles, or something else small.  Invite members of your family to estimate the amount inside the jar.
Provide sale papers or catalogues for your child.  Set a predetermined amount that he/she may "spend" on items.  Ask your child to list the items he/she may "purchase" without going over budget.
Answer this question from a main character's point of view.
Talk-Show Host:  "So now that you've made it through all that you have, what's next for you?  Where do you see yourself in five or ten years?  Why?"
Reading Comprehension Questions
Reflect on how much time passes in your book.  Skimming the text, find and discuss passages that show how the author makes time move.
The main character wants to meet you at the local diner to talk about everything he or she has been going through.  Think about conflicts this character faces.  Then tell the main character what you think about how he or she handles them, and what you consider to be his or her greatest strength - and his or her greatest fear or flaw.
Have your child interview another person about the length of time spent on various tasks.  Note and calculate the time spent in different activities.
