Review Iolanthe Paris Theatre de Chatelet
from Der NeueMerker Vienna April 2003
Concert version of rarity in Theatre du
Chatelet
First [part} is about Tchaikowski and
story, which I don't translate, I think everybody knows.
About Performance:
This time have been guest the St
Petersburgh Philharmonics with conductor Yuri Temirankow. The
oldest and most famous orchetsra of Russia. The cast have been
the best singers, Russia is having now. The title part was sung
by Marina Mescheriakowa with intensity and dramatic power in her
gorgeos duet with Vaudemont. The part of her father king
Rene presented Sergej Alexachkine, who sung his big aria with a
strong black bass worth a Gremin. The very cynic Robert was
Dimitri Hvorosovsky with viril power and a voice which all ladies
in the audience elicited tears. Gegam Grigorian was a fiery count
Vaudemont. His georgeous tenor fits absolutly to the difficult
part, more Herman than Lensky. A perfect performance which was
declined with enthusiastic applause.
