I started the car ladder with a Peugeot 106. 14" alloys quickly followed, then came new suspension, 16" alloys and more new suspension. Handling & brakes (borrowed from a rally car) were amazing. The speed, however, was amazingly slow.

Next came a Renault Clio 16v. With a 1.8 litre engine pushing out 137bhp as standard in a small car, getting from A to B was a lot more fun. Especially when the 137 became 160bhp. 0 - 60 was about 7 seconds, and top speed more than double our 70mph motorway limit, or so I'm told.

The 406 coupe, my next 'investment' is in a different league to the others - The styling is Pininfarina, the engine a 3 litre V6. 0 - 60 is 6.9 seconds, the top speed requires every last bit of the 160mph marking on the speedo, law permitting, obviously. The inside is full leather, with CD changer, climate control & loads of other toys fitted as standard. I cought mine with low miles (37k), 3 years old and with 12 month Peugeot warrenty for 12500. Given the near 30k asking price of the time, not a bad deal. I woul;d recommend one for the speed, luxury & refinement, but fuel economy varied from 40mpg on a motorway cruise, to about 15 - 20mpg when being driven 'properly'.
Of late, I've driven several sports cars with a view to my next purchase. I was disappointed with the (lack of) speed of the Civic Type R, yet enjoyed the Honda S2000, put of only by the 26k asking price
A few more months have gone by, and a replacement has finally arrived. After visiting my local TVR dealer, I decided not to buy a TVR just yet. It also happens to be a Lotus dealer, and I've just take delivery of a lovely new 111S. It has 156bhp, does 0 - 60 in 5.1 seconds, and I can't wait until it's run in and had it's first service...
To the kind people at TVR - I hope you don't mind me using these pics - if you do, please let me know!!
