| Improving London's Transport |

| Transport is key to a thriving London. Tube problems are severe, whilst the congestion charge appears to have done little to affect city centre traffic. A study has shown that buses are less reliable than ever before; the city appears to be grinding to a halt. James Forbear promises to complete end to end improvement of the London Transport System, starting by modernising and improving the services that the majority of city centre workers and 90% of London tourists - the London Underground. James will negotiate to increase service level agreements with all major train operators. James will help ensure adequate funding for the London Underground. Road transport will also undergo a thorough overhaul. I donot think the London motorist should be targeted as a source of revenue for authorities. The immediate removal of all "safety"cameras which are not sited in genuine accident blackspots. Those which are will be clearly visible, and speed limits well signposted beforehand. The vast amounts of capital saved will be rerouted into improving the transport system whilst freeing resource to tackle real crime. In London alone, it is estimated that there ar 500 deaths per year caused by speed bumps. They inhibit the ability of emergency vehicle drivers to reach their destinations, whilst causing damage to other vehicles which pass over them. Plans to build speed bumps will be stopped unless there is no other option on the particular road. Instead, I will focus on resolving the actual issue, not trying to cause obstruction for the London motorist. Plans include encouraging motorists to use major roads which will be capable of the extra use. The congestion charge will be halfed to a more sensible 2.50 for cars, acting as a detterent without effecting the London economy. Buses to keep regular time tables. A third carriage to be rolled out totrains on the DLR. |
