Ghouls on Parade Idea was from Gilbert Hernandez.
It started out to be a halloween poker run. The idea was to make it a costumed event. After some thought Gilbert decided that he really did not want to run it. He was worried about the safety of people riding while wearing masks and costumes.
Instead Gilbert came up with an event where we were to met at Village In Pizza. We chatted a bit, signed in, have a beer or get a bite to eat. Then we hopped on our bikes and road parade style straight through town to Jack's or Better who hosted us very well. It was really fun. Those of us who ride everyday enjoyed it, and it was a great event for those who pose as well. The looks we got from some of the cagers were better than usual.
If you find a big biker in leathers a bit startling imagine how you might be taken a bit aback to see that same rider in spiked battle armour and dracula style ghoulish white face paint. My battle armour has full size molded skulls on each shoulder. I got a particular chuckle out of one little girl and mom who were checking us out at a stop light. I looked over and noticed them both staring at us wide eyed. I realized I was scowling a bit because its a pain to ride in a cape. Being the good ABATE guy that I am I decided to smile at them to give a better impression. If they drew back any faster or further they would have hit their heads on the other side of the car.
The bar put up a hundred dollar prize for best costume. We also had the usual raffle drawings and fifty-fifty drawings.
This was a very fun event. We had a good group to party with. The bar (not the organization) put up the big prize. Regular bar patrons got in on our drawings, and the guy who won the fifty-fifty drawing donated twenty dollars back to ABATE.
Bob Rehmy got the raffle prizes Donated by Sun River Distributing, our local Coors Beer distributor.
Lisa Rehmy took care of the raffle and fifty ticket sales.
Oh, and Patti and I won the costume contest with our barbarian warrior costumes.
