The first confession released by the Bush regime’s Military
Tribunals �� that of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed �� has discredited the entire
process. Writing in Jurist, Northwestern University law professor
Anthony D’Amato likens Mohammed’s confession to those that emerged in
Stalin’s show trials of Bolshevik leaders in the 1930s.
That was my own immediate thought. I remember speaking years ago
with Soviet dissident Valdimir Bukovsky about the behavior of Soviet
dissidents under torture. He replied that people pressed for names
under torture would try to remember the names of war dead and people
who had passed away. Those who retained enough of their wits under
torture would confess to an unbelievable array of crimes in an effort
to alert the public to the falsity of the entire process.
That is what Mohammed did. We know he was tortured, because his
response to the obligatory question about his treatment during his
years of detention is redacted. We also know that he was tortured,
because otherwise there is no point for the US Justice (sic) Dept.
memos giving the green light to torture or for the Military Commissions
Act, which permits torture and death sentences based on confessions

Basketball Coach Suspended For Telling The Truth About Jews

Former
NBA player Micheal Ray Richardson was suspended by the Continental
Basketball Association on Wednesday for "anti-Semitic" comments the
Albany Patroons coach made in a newspaper interview. Richardson, a
Negro, made the comments to two reporters in his office when discussing
the contract he had been offered. "I've got big time lawyers, I've got
big time Jew lawyers," Richardson told the Times Union newspaper.
Richardson continued to tell the truth about Jewish power, "They got a
lot of power in this world, you know what I mean? Which I think is
great. I don't think there's nothing wrong with it." Surely his opinion
might change should he end up being fired from his job for offending
the "chosen race".
Richardson
told reporters "If you look in most professional sports, they're run by
Jewish people." Three of the four major sports leagues in America in
fact have Jews as their commissioners. "If you look at a lot of most
successful corporations and stuff, more buisnesses, they're run by
Jewish. It's not a knock, but they are crafty people." Richardson has
since apologized and the usual condemnation has come down from
superiors as the team owner said Tuesday, " We will not tolerate and
the league will not tolerate bigots to perform in our league."
Cosmotheism: An Idea Who's Time Has Come

Cosmotheist thought running through the spiritual and intellectual life
of our people. From the ancients to modern scientists and philosophers,
Western man has be searching for the truth that is Cosmotheism.
Cosmotheism is an idea who's time has come. I've told you before in
earlier meetings that we can find partial expressions of Cosmotheism
among the writings of the ancients twenty-five centuries ago. A great
many of the Greek and Roman philosophers understood parts of our truth.
The same was true of the pagan philosophers of northern Europe and also
of certain outstanding Christian thinkers of the Middle Ages despite
the fundamental contradictions of Cosmotheism with the teachings of the
church. Then in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries there was an
enormous outpouring of Cosmotheist feeling. Cosmotheism, or at least
one aspect of Cosmotheism, was the underlying idea of the entire
romantic movement in art and literature, from Alexander Pope, to Joseph
Turner and William Wordsworth. And Cosmotheism is the underlying idea
of twentieth century science. Today more and more thinkers, scientific
thinkers in particular, are coming to understand that fact and also to
give explicit expression to that understanding.
Overcoming the Fear of Death

In this excerpt from Out of the Darkness,
Dr. Pierce explains that mankind has a spiritual need to indentify with
the immortal. We all possess this urge to know the Creator. It is this
personal connection to the infinite that makes us able to overcome the
fear of death.
There is in all of us I believe a need for a more personal
identification with something immortal. We need more than merely the
knowledge that each of us is a momentarily glowing spark of individual
consciousness in a conscious cosmos. A cosmos which, even as it's
overall brightness grows, witnesses the winking on and then out again
of billions of individual sparks. We need in addition to that the
knowledge that we as individuals make a difference. We need the
knowledge that we can make a mark on the world through our own efforts
and that the mark we make will last. We need to know that our personal
contribution to the life of the universe will be remembered after we're
gone and that others will add to it and help it grow, so that ten
generations from now, or even a hundred generations, the record will
still be there. There will be someone then who will be able to say,
“Back during the great struggle ages ago, when the race nearly
perished, there were a few men and women who were on the right side. A
few who did what had to be done. A few that made the difference and
even today, centuries later, we remember their names and their works”.
The Nature of Cosmotheism

examines the difference between Cosmotheism and the "revealed"
religions. Dr. Pierce explains that the truth of Cosmotheism is arrived
at through the union of universal consciousness with man's reason.
Now let's remind ourselves for a moment of the nature of Cosmotheism.
It's truth, it's understanding which is arrived at in a particular
way. And that way is through the synthesis of subjective and objective
knowledge, or to use the same words that are used in our pamphlet here,
it's the perfect union of the Creator's immanent conscious in man with
man's reason. Our truth comes to us through a blending of the universal
consciousness in our race-soul, in our genes, with our reason.
Thus our way of arriving at truth is fundamentally different from
the way of most major religions, which depend in a very basic way on
revelation, whether through oracles, or prophets or what have you. It's
also different from the purely mystical or purely subjective religions
of the East which are a fad among so many lost souls in the West today.
Just as it is different from the pure rationalism which used to be the
undisputed philosophy of science until recently.
Truth Embodied in a Living Community

we learn that a religious truth must be made manifest in a community of
believers. As Cosmotheists, we must take our consciousness of the
Creator's Purpose and give it life and vitality by coming together to
for a living community.
Our community does stand for something; for a single great truth, and
it must reflect that fact. An idea - or a truth - may exist in a single
mind somewhere, or it may be set down in a book buried in a library,
but it only acquires significance when it becomes embodied in a living
community. And a community embodies a truth not just by individual
members having it in the back of their minds, but by the behavior of
the whole community continually reflecting it; by having the truth mold
and shape the community.
If a stranger comes into a community which truly embodies a
spiritual idea, he doesn't have to discover the fact of that embodiment
by having someone take him aside an explain it to him. He can see it
all around him in the way the members of the community act and the way
they conduct their daily lives. In other words, in their attitudes and
their actions as well as in their beliefs.
London, England -- The British public school system is dropping the alleged "Holocaust" from its
curriculum because a majority of British students don't believe in it and are
ridiculing their teachers for teaching it, the London Daily Mail reported
today.
"Teachers are reluctant to cover the atrocity for fear of upsetting
students whose beliefs include Holocaust denial," the Daily Mail reported.
The Mail reported that teachers trying to include the Holocaust in lesson
plans are being bombarded with anti-Jewish and anti-Zionist reactions.
A Department of Education report cited in the article found that both
Christian and Muslim students were objecting to the pro-Jewish slant of the
official education establishment:
"[Teachers were] strongly challenged by some Christian parents for their
treatment of the Arab-[Zionist] conflict-and the history of the state of
Israel that did not accord with the teachings of their denomination."
Surveys have shown that disbelief in the Holocaust and general anti-Jewish
feelings among white youth range between 20% and 55% in most European
countries, including Germany, where it is illegal not to believe in the
Holocaust.
The "Holocaust" was invented by Jews in the Soviet Union during World War
II to both cover up Jewish atrocities committed against whites and to slander
National Socialist Germany, which had resisted Jewish rule. The lies
continued in the post-war period as Jewish organizations used them as an
excuse to steal "reparations" from European businesses.

is the religion set forth by Dr. William Pierce in three essays or
"books" he wrote to express his religious philosophy. These books are, The Path, On Living Things and On Society.
While Dr. Pierce did discuss Cosmotheism in other essays or speeches,
they should not be regarded as definitively representing Cosmotheism.
Cosmotheism: The Path

The Path lays out the fundamental tenets of Cosmotheism and explains our relationship to the Creator.
"The tangible Universe is the material manifestation of the Creator.
All the blazing suns of the firmament; the formless gas between the
stars; the silent, frozen mountain peaks of the moon; the rustling
trees of earthly forests; the teeming creatures of the dark ocean
depths; and man are parts of the Creator's material manifestation.
But
the Creator has a spiritual manifestation, which is the Urge toward the
One Purpose. The Urge lies at the root of all things and is manifested
in the relations between all things.
The Urge is in the tenuous
gases of the void, for they have a purpose, which are the flaming suns
and all the planets, which form from them. The Urge is in the earth,
for it has a purpose, which is the realm of plants and animals which
flourish on it. And the Urge is in man, for he has a purpose, which is
higher man." -- The Path 2:2-4
"The difference between true reason and false reason is this: True
reason seeks to guide man's actions in accord with the immanent
consciousness of the Whole, while false reason does not. The
man or woman of true reason seeks order in all things, and he shuns
chaos. He is pleased by a harmonious relationship between all the
elements of his life and the world. He rejects that which clashes and
does not fit, that which is alien. He is happy in the knowledge that
what was true and good yesterday will be true and good tomorrow.
Through order and harmony, he seeks true progress, which is the ascent
of the Path of Life; but he shuns frivolous change, which destroys the
harmony between the past and the future. He loves truth, and he hates falsehood. He loves beauty, and he hates ugliness. He loves nobility in all things, and he hates baseness. And
all these predisposition's of the man or woman of true reason are like
rays thrown out by the Divine Spark which burns in his soul. And this
Divine Spark is the immanent consciousness of the Whole. It is the

Cosmotheism: On Living Things

The first chapter of On Living Things is a synopsis of The Path and it could be regarded as a sort of "catechism" of Cosmotheism.
I
From The Path we know these things:
There is but one Reality, and that Reality is the Whole. It is the Creator, the Self-created.
The material manifestation of the Creator is the tangible Universe, with all its non-living and living things, including man.
The spiritual manifestation of the Creator is the Urge toward the
One Purpose. The Urge lies at the root of all things and is manifested
in the relations between all things.
The One Purpose is the Self-Realization of the Creator: the Self-completion of the Self-created.
Man's purpose is the Creator's Purpose. He is a part of both the
substance and the means of the Creator, and he is nothing else; this is
his entire being and purpose.
Man serves the Creator's Purpose in two ways: unconsciously and
consciously. In both ways, he follows the Path of Life, which is the
Creator's evolutionary Path toward Self-Completion. He passes from step
to step on the Path, from sub-man to man to higher man, and beyond.
In the unconscious way the passing is blind, an its driving force
is instinct, which is a manifestation of the immanent consciousness of
the Whole in man.
And in the conscious way the passing is guided by man's awareness
of his true identity and his true mission; this awareness illuminates
the Path before him and allows him to choose his steps.
Cosmotheism: On Society

Human social institutions, like all other things, are of the Whole,
and they cannot be perfect while the Self-realization of the Whole
remains incomplete. As men and all other things made by men they can
only serve the One Purpose imperfectly.
While men lack consciousness, their society reflects their
blindness and their groping; its service fails; it even may become an
instrument of retrogression, contravening the Creator's Purpose.
But when men are awakened, then their society should reflect their
consciousness and their true reason; it should become an instrument of
progress; it should manifest in its structure and in its institutions
the Urge toward the One Purpose.
How, then, should men who have been awakened constitute their
society so that it may best serve the Creator's Purpose? How should
they govern their community, which is the Cosmotheist Community? What
should be the forms and functions of their institutions?
We Can Deport Them All

George Will tried in March of last year to say it was impossible ("They
would fill 200,000 buses in a caravan stretching bumper-to-bumper from
San Diego to Alaska…") I've got to say that it can't be impossible��how
does Will think they got to the US in the first place?

I confidently expect illegal alien protesters to be chanting "They can't deport us all" at the next round of illegal alien protest marches.
But they're W-R-O-N-G, of course. Very large numbers of people can
be deported, it's happening around the world all the time. Amnesty
International complains whenever it happens, of course, but it still
happens.
West African invaders are being kicked out of Morocco, gypsies are
being kicked out of Slovenia, Indonesians are being kicked out of
Malaysia, Haitians are being kicked out of the Dominican Republic.
It's been known to happen in America, too, when the problem gets
bad enough. In 1954, President Eisenhower deported a very large number
of illegals in an initiative called Operation Wetback. As Bob Park, who
as a young Border Patrol officer took part in Operation Wetback,
pointed out to me, Eisenhower didn't have to have any laws passed to
deport people��illegal immigration was already illegal, and deportation
is how the law dealt with it.
Will 'Song of the South' Rise Again?

So what is it about this movie that is so upsetting? To be honest, nothing really. Any reasonable viewer will realize that Song of the South is no more offensive than Gone With the Wind.
Walt Disney Co.’s 1946 film "Song of the South" was historic. It
was Disney’s first big live-action picture and produced one of the
company’s most famous songs �� the Oscar-winning "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah." It
also provided the inspiration for the Splash Mountain rides at Disney’s
theme parks.
But the movie remains hidden in the Disney archives �� never
released on video in the United States and criticized as racist for its
depiction of Southern plantation blacks. The film’s 60th anniversary
passed last year without a whisper of official rerelease, which is
unusual for Disney, but President and CEO Bob Iger recently said the
company was reconsidering.
The movie doesn’t reveal whether it takes place before or after the
Civil War, and never refers to blacks on the plantation as slaves. It
makes clear they work for the family, living down dirt roads in wood
shacks while the white characters stay in a mansion. Remus and other
black characters’ dialogue is full of "ain’t nevers," "ain’t nobodys,"
"you tells," and "dem dayses."
Willis said he doesn’t think the movie is racist, just from a
different time. "Stereotypes did exist on the screen," he said. "But if
you look at other films of that time period, I think 'Song of the
South' was really quite tame in that regard. I think Disney did make an
effort to show African-Americans in a more positive light."

The Coming North American Parliament

The goal to create a North American Union
by 2010 as a regional government - comprising a collective government
for the United States, Canada, and Mexico - is "directly stated only"
in the May 2005 task force report Building a North American Community published by the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR).
Academic literature distributed in advance to conference
participants about a common legal framework for the U.S., Canada and
Mexico included proposals for a North American Court of Justice (with
the authority to overrule a decision of the U.S. Supreme Court), a
North American Trade Tribunal, a North American Court of Justice, and a
Charter of Fundamental Human Rights for North America, also dubbed the
North American Social Charter.
In his article in Newsweek, Pastor admitted that "Illegal immigration has increased and if anything, NAFTA
has inadvertently fueled immigration by encouraging foreign investment
near the U.S.-Mexican border, which in turn serves as a magnet for
workers in central and southern Mexico. As a result, the number of
undocumented Mexican workers who live in the United States has
skyrocketed in the NAFTA era…"
Pastor also acknowledged that the U.S. Government doesn't want to
enforce its immigration laws. He said, however, that the solution is
not a fence, except in some isolated high-crime areas along the border,
and it's not to punish companies for hiring illegal aliens, since
identity documents can be too easily forged. He said the solution is a
national biometric and fraud-proof identification card that identifies
national origin and legal status.
After they saw a baby girl they had gone to a fertility clinic to
conceive, her parents became convinced something was wrong, according
to court papers.
"While we love Baby Jessica as our own, we are reminded of this
terrible mistake each and every time we look at her; it is simply
impossible to ignore."
The girl's skin was darker than either parent's, a judge wrote in
allowing the parents to proceed with a lawsuit that claims the clinic
botched the insemination of the wife's eggs. The ruling was made public
Wednesday.
Nancy Andrews asked Keltz about the "abnormality" of the child's
complexion, the judge said, and the physician told her the condition
was normal, that the in vitro fertilization was done properly and that
the child would "get lighter over time."
Three DNA tests - a home kit and two professional laboratory tests
- confirmed that Thomas Andrews was not the baby's father, the judge
quoted the couple as saying.
Global Warming Spells Golden Age for Russia

Russia
has a key role to play in the battle against greenhouse gases. Since
the collapse of the Soviet Union already brought with it an emissions
reduction of some 30 percent, Russia is in the comfortable position of
not having to place any particular restrictions on its currently
booming economy. Moreover, the country could earn up to $20 billion
through the sale of emission rights.
Fertile fields where there was once barren tundra; the Arctic free of
ice; unhindered access to mineral resources -- in Russia, there is
increasing hope that the country will emerge as a winner from the
catastrophe of climate change. For the northern giant with millions of
cubic kilometers of permafrost soil, global warming could bring
enormous national benefit. The other countries around the North Pole
are likewise beginning to imagine the coming of a new Golden Age. On
this view, a Union of Nordic Nations might be the strategic alliance of
the future, which thanks to the warming climate could keep pace with
China and India in global competition.
Diversity is Strength! - But What About Finland?

though Finland has the kind of Nordic welfare state that attracts
immigrants, it still has one of the lowest percentages of immigrants of
any Western European country.
So how does Finland do what supposedly can't be done��keep out unwanted
immigrants?
Answer: the Finns simply make the effort required.

for several weeks to find out why Finland has "the world's best
educational system, produces such talented musicians and architects,
and has more cell phones per capita than Japan and America."
Sitting here in my pajamas in California, I could have saved the
Washington Post all the expense. The most important reason why Finland
is so Finlandy is because it is full of Finns.
As the great Russian Alexander Solzhenitsyn said in his Nobel Prize lecture:
"… the disappearance of nations would have impoverished us no
less than if all men had become alike, with one personality and one
face. Nations are the wealth of mankind, its collective personalities;
the very least of them wears its own special colours and bears within
itself a special facet of divine intention."
But Finland apparently does not intend to disappear��unlike America.
Taming the AIPAC Leviathan

It is suddenly becoming possible for serious people �� politicians and
policymakers as well as academics �� to ask hard questions about
America's relationship with Israel. Is America pursuing its own
interests in the Middle East, or Israel's? Should America tie itself so
closely to the Israeli government's policies or should it forge other
alliances?
This week saw yet another reminder of the awesome power of “the lobby”.
The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) brought more than
6,000 activists to Washington for its annual policy conference. And
they proceeded to live up to their critics' darkest fears.
The lobbyists had every reason to feel proud of their work.
Congress has more Jewish members than ever before: 30 in the House and
a remarkable 13 in the Senate. (There are now more Jews in Congress
than Episcopalians.) Both parties are competing with each other to be
the “soundest” on Israel. About two-thirds of Americans hold a
favourable view of the place.
Yet they have reason to feel a bit nervous, too. The Iraq debacle
has produced a fierce backlash against pro-war hawks, of which AIPAC
was certainly one. It has also encouraged serious people to ask awkward
questions about America's alliance with Israel. And a growing number of
people want to push against AIPAC. One pressure group, the Council for the National Interest��run by two retired congressmen, Paul Findley,[author of They Dare to Speak Out],
and ,James Abourezk, a Democrat��even bills itself as the anti-AIPAC.
The Leviathan may be mightier than ever, but there are more and more
Captain Ahabs trying to get their harpoons in.
Nearly All Population Growth to Take Place in “Less Developed” Countries

The world’s population will likely reach 9.2 billion in 2050, with
virtually all new growth occurring in the developing world, a U.N.
report said Tuesday.
According to the U.N. Population Division’s 2006 estimate, the world’s
population will likely increase by 2.5 billion people over the next 43
years from the current 6.7 billion �� a rise equivalent to the number of
people in the world in 1950.
The report also said most population growth will take place in less
developed countries, whose numbers are projected to rise from 5.4
billion in 2007 to 7.9 billion in 2050. The populations of poor
countries like Afghanistan, Burundi, Congo, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia,
Niger, East Timor and Uganda are projected to at least triple by
mid-century.
By contrast, the total population of richer countries is expected to remain largely unchanged at 1.2 billion. The
report said the figure would be lower without expected migration of
people from poorer countries, averaging 2.3 million annually.
Airport Security Targets the Inside Threat

The Transportation Security Administration carried out surprise
inspections on workers at five airports in Florida and Puerto Rico on
Monday, one week after a baggage handler in Orlando allegedly used his
airport credentials to smuggle more than a dozen firearms into a
commercial jetliner.
Some 160 TSA officers, backed by Federal Air Marshals and local
police, searched airplanes for contraband, shined flashlights in
airport vehicles and patted down contractor employees involved in
airport security.
The five airports inspected were in Tampa, Orlando, Miami, Fort Lauderdale and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Thomas Anthony Munoz, a Comair baggage handler, and a co-worker
allegedly used their work uniforms and airport identification to get
into restricted areas of the Orlando International Airport on March 5.
The pair smuggled a duffel bag containing 14 firearms and eight pounds
of marijuana onto a plane, authorities allege.
Munoz went through the normal TSA screening, used his airport ID to
return to the secure area, retrieved the bag and carried it onto a
Delta flight headed for San Juan, according to court documents.
A tipster told police about the smuggling episode, and Munoz was
approached by TSA screeners when the plane landed, authorities said.
Munoz dropped the duffel bag on a table and said, "I'm busted," according to authorities.
Dumbing-Down of America

tests to make themselves look good. Voters are being deceived about how
much kids are learning.

Stunned, America went to work to improve education in math and
science, and succeeded. The Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) scores of
high school seniors began to rise, reaching a high in 1964.
However, test scores for high school students have been falling now for 40 years. In 1984, the Reagan administration issued A Nation at Risk, documenting the deterioration of American public education.
Among the kids whose test scores on reading and math were not
factored in were the 25 percent of white students and 50 percent of
black and Hispanic kids who had dropped out by senior year.
Factor the dropouts back in, and what the NAEP test suggests is
that, of black kids starting in first grade, about one in eight will be
able to read at the level of a high school senior after 12 years, and
one in 33 will be able to do the math. Among Hispanic kids, one in 10
will be able to read at a high-school senior level, but only one in 20
will be able to do high-school math.

It is now about a quarter of a century since Arthur Jensen of the
University of California at Berkeley broke the consensus of some forty
years by proposing that there is a strong genetic basis to race
differences in intelligence. From around 1930 it had been almost
unanimously stated that the IQ difference between blacks and whites was
entirely due to social deprivation. This was the doctrine routinely
taught to college students throughout the United States.
It was in 1969 that this environmentalist consensus was broken by
Dr. Jensen. He suggested that the best reading of the evidence was that
between two thirds and three quarters of the black IQ deficit was
probably due to genetic causes. What this meant was that if black
children were reared in the same environment as whites, the IQ
difference would be reduced to between two thirds and three quarters,
i.e. to about 10-12 IQ points. At the time, this was essentially an
informed guess. There was no direct evidence to show whether it was
right or wrong.
The crucial evidence on this question became available only in
1992, and it showed that Dr. Jensen was right and, if anything, had
underestimated the strength of the genetic factor. Ironically, the
evidence was produced in a study that was designed to prove that Dr.
Jensen was wrong but ended up showing he was right. This is the story.
National ID Card Rules Unveiled

Real ID Act is yet another encroachment upon our freedom and our right
to privacy. It will increase the chance of identity theft, enable the
routine tracking of citizens, and move us further down the road toward
a surveillance society.
Homeland Security officials released long-delayed guidelines that turn
state-issued identification cards into de facto internal passports
Thursday, estimating the changes will cost states and individuals $23
billion over 10 years.
Critics, such as American Civil Liberties Union attorney Tim
Sparapani, charge that the bill increases government access to data on
Americans and amplifies the risk of identity theft, without providing
significant security benefits.
"Real ID creates the largest single database about U.S. people that has ever been created," Sparapani said.
Sophia Cope, a staff attorney at the centrist Center for Democracy and Technology, says the rules only mention privacy once.
"The Real ID Act does not include language that lets DHS prescribe
privacy requirements, so there are no privacy regulations related to
exchange of personal information between the states, none about
skimming of the data on the magnetic stripe, and no limits on use of
information by the feds," Cope said.
Numbers Drop for the Married With Children

As cohabitation and out-of-wedlock births increase among the broader
population, social scientists predict that marriage with children will
continue its decades-long retreat into relatively high-income
exclusivity.
Punctuating a fundamental change in American family life, married
couples with children now occupy fewer than one in every four
households -- a share that has been slashed in half since 1960 and is
the lowest ever recorded by the census.
As marriage with children becomes an exception rather than the
norm, social scientists say it is also becoming the self-selected
province of the college-educated and the affluent. The working class
and the poor, meanwhile, increasingly steer away from marriage, while
living together and bearing children out of wedlock.
"The culture is shifting, and marriage has almost become a luxury
item, one that only the well educated and well paid are interested in,"
said Isabel V. Sawhill, an expert on marriage and a senior fellow at
the Brookings Institution.
"We seem to be reverting to a much older pattern, when elites marry
and a great many others live together and have kids," said Peter
Francese, demographic trends analyst for Ogilvy & Mather, an
advertising firm.
High School Divides Students by Race

Under
the federal No Child Left Behind Act, schools, school districts and
states must report and are accountable for scores in reading and math
for specific races, English learners, special education students and
economically disadvantaged students. The state has reported scores
based on race for years. The school assemblies simply reflected those
same categories in reporting the numbers to students.
The Concord campus on Friday held separate assemblies for students of
different ethnicities to talk about last year's test results and the
upcoming slew of state exams this spring.
Jazz music and pictures of Martin Luther King greeted
African-American students, while Filipino, Asian and Pacific Islander
students saw flags of their foreign homelands on the walls. Latinos and
white students each attended their own events, too, complete with
statistics showing results for all ethnicities and grade level.
”They started off by saying jokingly, 'What up, white people,'”
said freshman Megan Wiley, 14. Teachers flashed last year's test scores
and told the white crowd of students to do better for the sake of their
people.
”They got into, 'you should be proud of your race,'” Wiley said. “It was just weird.”

When our American forefathers adopted the Constitution, each
congressional district had a small population. Campaigners rode to the
villages and towns of their district and truly stumped for votes; that
is, they actually stood on a tree stump and made a speech. No one
needed powerful special interest groups to finance a campaign because
standing on a stump doesn’t cost any money. Members of state
legislatures campaigned the same way. To campaign for U.S. Senator one
just had to visit the state legislature because it elected U.S.
Senators. Again, such campaigning required no money.
Incumbents had no great advantage in campaigns because any
challenger had exactly the same opportunity to get his message to the
voters.
All that has changed��and America suffers for it.
Make no mistake about it: the present system of lobbying on the
national and state level constitutes nothing short of public bribery of
elected officials. When a powerful lobby can promise a candidate huge
sums of money and perhaps even a windfall job for the lobby after he
leaves office �� if only he votes their way �� it is bribery, pure and

They call it "The once and future Republic of Vermont"
Vermont was once an independent republic, and it can be one again.
We think the time to make that happen is now. Over the past 50 years,
the U.S. government has grown too big, too corrupt and too aggressive
toward the world, toward its own citizens and toward local democratic
institutions. It has abandoned the democratic vision of its founders
and eroded Americans' fundamental freedoms.
Vermont did not join the Union to become part of an empire.
Near the first of this year we were shocked to learn that Kevin Alfred
Strom had been arrested and terrible allegations were being made
against him. Neither of us believed for half of a second that this was
even plausible. So, we sent Kevin a sympathy card, tried to write an
uplifting message in it, and also put some money into his commissary
account as a seed for his legal defense fund. Nearly two months later I
am holding a reply letter from Kevin, and I'd like to share some of it.
I don't think it would be fair to transcribe it, so I'll paraphrase and
this can be an update to all who are concerned for Kevin.
Firstly, Kevin expressed strong gratitude for the outreach. Knowing
that his efforts have made an impact in people's lives and that people
have faith in him, "gives meaning to my existence and hope for the
future."
Folks ... Kevin set himself up as a target, put his name on the banner,
stood front and center, and called out the purveyors of social perfidy
in our society. He did these things for us. For people he didn't even
know. Now he is being persecuted for his efforts on our behalf. It only
cost 39 cents to write down, " I don't believe any of this," or, "You
have friends standing by you, Kevin," and send it to him. There isn't
any excuse for not casting 39 cents worth of support to a man the likes
of KAS.

Kevin is trying to exercise, but is in solitary confinement. The open area available to him is two feet by five feet,
and he is never permitted to leave. How would you like to be locked in
a small closet with a toilet for a few months? Pry a few bucks out of
your pockets for Kevin. Skip Friday's cigarettes and six pack, spend
the time writing a letter, and alleviate this man's suffering as much
as you can.

Kevin goes on to apologize to us and to all correspondents for the lag
in his replies. It seems that he was prevented from possessing stamps
until recently. He says that given who he is, and the press coverage of
the heinous charges, he feels danger from assailants on both sides of
