In 1889, when Strindgerg was hoping to form his own experimental theatre in Stockholm and was still penning plays for Antoine's Theatre Libre, he wrote The Stronger. The play has a dramatic intensity that few plays possess. The Stronger finally had it's premiere with one of Strindberg's new Chamber Plays, "The Burned Site", in 1907. The play has been performed all over the world numerous times and is hailed as a "gem" among monologues. Though but one character speaks, the souls of three are skilfully laid bare.
