| Top Ten Ways to Avoid Studying | ||||||
| These are taken from my personal experience of the past few weeks and in some cases earlier experience as well, I do not know if this list is demonstrative of others but if you can relate, that's cool. I actually received a forward today talking about way too true ways that one goes about writing a paper, if I had not already written this list I probably wouldn't have posted it in fear of being a copy cat... but alas. Anyway, I'm thinking of posting the list from that email on here sometime too. It's pretty cool. And now the list. 10. Updating your webpage- now I realize that not everyone out there has a webpage to update but hey, it's my list, besides it's only number ten. 9. Doing nice things for other people- This can be as simple as taking the time to help your mom unload the groceries or set the table or absolutely anything she wants done. I baked my friend a cake. 8. Exercise- What better time to get in shape that during exam week? And you tell yourself that you've always been meaning to getting around to doing some sit-ups, why wait any longer? Besides exercise can't be a bad thing, so it's ok to do that... you're not putting off studying you're refusing to put off your new year's resolution any longer. 7. Taking a shower- It feels so nice to be clean. You can't study until you feel clean. Besides hygene can't be a bad thing. You'd be amazed how long taking a good cleansing shower can take. You notice that other hygenic practices can take a lot longer too, like brushing teeth, hair, washing your face, hands... it looks about time to cut those nails, oh and your skin is pretty dry better use some lotion, this might be a good time to try that new shade of eye-shadow too... 6. Eating- Eating can take a long time too. I mean especially if you have to make it. And then later you'll want a snack because you need to be nourished to study well. So you take a little break to go downstairs, pick what you want, bring it back up, sort the smarties into colours.. savour each one.. then go back downstairs, get more... 5. Talking on the phone- During diplomas I talked to my dad for hours, it's amazing how fascinating someone's day becomes and how many questions you can ask them about it. He was the only person I was really allowed to talk to at the time. Whether or not you have to phone under the guise of discussing course notes (which probably very few of you have to do now), talking on the phone can be a great way to kill time... I mean, refresh your brain. And it becomes so incredibly hard to hang up. 4. Signing on to MSN "just to check if you have mail"- and then that person you haven't talked to forever is on and you should really talk to them and your other friend is on and she just started talking to you and you don't want to be rude... 3. Reorganizing- anything will do: books, cds, clothes, from alphabetical to genre, from season to colour. 2. Making lists- of what you need to study, of when you need to study, of how to divide up what you need to study, of what you need to do after midterms are over (I have that one stuck on my wall and now I have to start dealing with it) and then unrelated things like: of what dvd's you want to eventually buy, of what movies you want to see, of all the people you need to send emails to, of all the people who visit your webpage to your knowledge, of the ways you avoid studying. 1. Cleaning- your room has never looked so dirty. you can't possibly start studying until it's clean. I personally actually can't study in my room if it's messy. It's clean now. It's even vacuumed. |
