Today on Statements of the Bold and the Obvious
When in doubt state the obvious. "I like bacon." The conversation had reached an uncomfortable pause when these words emerged. And instantly the tension was shattered like a banana just removed from a pot of liquid nitrogen.
It's a good trick to know. I mean, think about it- no one can start an argument with the obvious and no one can be offended by it. Well... I take that back, some people can be offended by anything. And well, some people can start arguments about anything too, although, you would know for sure that it wasn't your fault if you were just stating the obvious... because you were, like, in doubt, you know.
Hey, it's interesting that I should mention controversy and people making controversy around anything. It makes me think of one of those nice fourth period spare days when I used to drive Billy home. We were discussing controversy, probably because I was telling him about Pierce's collective entitled "Controversy", I remember Billy talking about how he loves controversy and how people can make controversy about anything, well, almost anything, maybe not that streetlight over there.
But you know, people could make a controversy over the streetlight, I mean, who's land is it on anyway? What if someone doesn't want a streetlight on their yard? I mean, it could obstruct the view- but hey there buddy you either get the skinny pole or tire tracks on your lawn every week and sunfires in your flower bed. Which would you prefer?
Then you could state the obvious. "There is a car in the petunias." "Fluffy got ran over by a minivan." And as the kids are bawling "I like bacon." Works every time...
