| FRANCE- Part II | |||||
| France continued. I forgot to mention the milk. The milk in France is crazy. It's like this milk that has all these preservatives in it so you don't actually have to put it in the fridge. And it tastes like cream. Yes. And So I will tell you about the morning meal. When I first came, my partner and her mom asked me what I like to drink with breakfast, I said milk was fine. Her mom was happy because she had milk. She had just bought milk. And she had lots of Coca-light-lemon. Yes. Cases and cases. I was a teensy bit worried because I really don't like Diet Coke and especially not Lemon Diet Coke, but it was actually a lot better there. I actually did like it! So that was good. But anyway, getting back to the milk issue. The next morning we go down for breakfast and she asks me again what I want- coffee, tea, hot chocolate... and I was like, "uhhh" and then she remembered I had said milk! Ah, fine and dandy, she asks me if I want it hot or cold, I say cold and they both kind of look at me funny but say ok. Pour the milk into a bowl. Yes. Milk, in a bowl. That's the way they drink tea and coffee and hot chocolate. In bowls. It was very strange, I have to say. But alright. And I forwent the orange juice. The french drink a lot of orange juice. I'm not the hugest fan of orange juice, so every morning I had my milk in a bowl. Yeah. It was different. But hey, if the world were all the same it would be boring- n'est-ce pas? Oh, and another little interesting thing. They never drink out of cans. Especially not ever in a restaurant or public place. So you get a pop, you always pour it into the glass. I personally didn't have a problem with it. In fact, I thought it was kind of fun when we were over at Stephen's partner's house, just the kids, all of us sitting around sipping our coke and iced-tea from wine glasses. Yeah, it was fun. And we ate this awesome stuff. It was like fondu with meat, except instead of putting it in oil, you just cook it on a hot plate. So good. And there were grated carrots. Everywhere. I was afraid of them at first, but that night, with the hot-plate-meat, at Stephen's partner's house, I had some and they were so good. And I don't particularly like carrots anyway, but they were very good. I had a baguette sandwich today. It was awesome. Baguette sandwiches are the best. |
