But not too busy to go see the wonders of explosions in the sky on Canada Day. Now living in Small City, Alberta, I never really understood the fascination with going to see the fireworks. It was a lot of effort and annoying traffic and parking to go and deal with a throng of irritating people all vying for a glimpse of the mediocre display of... patriotism? And holy crap was it expensive for the city! And really, who would notice if we didn't have fireworks? If you still got a day off work and the 15 million was going into something like... actually important, who would really mind? Would people actually complain? I mean, we're Canadian! We're not about the fireworks. We're about not being dumb Americans.
But anyway, all this to say: the fireworks in Waterloo were AWESOME! It was a really fun event! I didn't have to drive. I met up with a group of friends before dark, who had procurred a prime spot on the grass with blankets and caramel corn. We played Eucre (I looked up the spelling for that) and Frisbee and saw a guy juggle fire. Fire! A Fire Juggler! Then it got too dark to determine the suits of the cards and we stopped just as the first firework exploded in the sky. Now, they were nice. And every once in a while there was a really cool one. But holy crap- the finale! IN-FREAKING-CREDIBLE! It was like the guy said, ok, let's just make all the rest of them go off at once and then have this HUGE one at the end to light up the whole sky so that everyone is like all impressed like.
What an event. I'm definitely excited for next year. But... in all honesty is it worth the money? Really what they should do is make fireworks not cost so much. Then we could have our yearly morale booster plus money to put into stuff.
