| Coke or Pepsi? Ok. I already know the correct answer to this question but instead of just telling you and beating you with a stick if you disagree, I've decided I would go through some of my favourite memorable moments from each side. Vanilla coke- thumbs up from Simon Cowell of American Idol and Missy Elliot. Pepsi blue- ewww! Pepsi Twist- promoted by the Osbournes, I don't know about you, but that turns me off to the whole pespi twist thing. Like they like it because there's blood in it or something... um. Anyway. Pepsi- promoted by Shakira. Now, I know there is a strong sentiment of dislike towards pop divas like Shakira, but I would have to say, this promotion would be a point for pepsi if they would have done a cool commercial with her. It could have been very snazzy. But it sure wasn't. This ends up being a strike for Pepsi since the commercial really sucked. The spanish one was slightly better, but no. Still with Pepsi. How could we neglect to mention pepsi promoting pop princess Britney Spears? Now, they have turned out some pretty cool commercials- the now and then commercial, I think it's pretty cute, and the music, while pop-y is rather catchy. This is a point for Pepsi with slight dock because it is in fact Britney Spears. Coke on the other hand rivaled the pop princess promotion technique with the lovely and talented Christina Aguilera. Now, I will probably create a ramble about Christina, but just for a note so that you understand. While Christina's image is... well, yeah, that girl has got a set of lungs and more talent in her pinkie finger than Britney has in her entire back-up dance troupe. So Coke using Christina as the pop poster girl gets them big points in my books. Unfortunately the commercial wasn't quite as spectacular as some of the dance-y pepsi ones, mind you it was indeed a different kind of promotion, a contest. Alrighty then. Moving on, well, back- back in time. To a Pepsi commercial. Decades ago Pepsi did something that would even out the Coca-Cola Christina score, they promoted their product with pop icon, landmark, king- Michael Jackson. Now again, if you look at Michael today, the image, it's... yeah, little creepy, but come on- does that guy not have incredible talent? Singing, dancing legend! The Billy Jean Pepsi comercial scores them big points. So lets take a look at the scores: Pepsi- MJ(++), Britney(+-), Shakira(-), Osbournes(-), and Pepsi blue (---) (again, eww) Coke- Christina(++), Missy(+), Simon(+), Vanilla Coke(+) Hmm, looks like we need to explore coca cola some more. How about those cute christmas coke commercials? Those are nice. Rivaled by "generation next" and "pepsi points"? ha. no. Two miserable failures. Oh, I might mention the Spice Girls promoted pepsi. I don't know if that is a point or a strike, the tune is pretty catchy. Oh! Oh! Songs. "Joy of laughter, joy of fun, joy of pepsi on your tongue, joy of cola in your la la la life! ba ba ba ba baa, ba ba ba ba baa, the joy of cola. ba ba ba ba baa, ba ba ba ba baa, pepsi cola. The world goes round and round, but some things never change..." versus "wherever there's a pool there's always a flirt, wherever there's school there'll always be homework, wherever there's a beat there's always a drum, wherever there is fun there's always coca cola. doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo dooo. doo doo doo doo doo always coca cola, the stars will always shine, the birds will always sing, as long as there's thirst, there's always the real thing, coca cola is always the one, wherever there is fun there's always coca cola." I like the second one best I think. Classic. Actually as much as "life tastes good" was a bit of a marketing failure, the song is cute. Oh yes, and I remembered I needed to mention the pepsi girl. Now, I liked the pepsi girl at the beginning, it was a cute idea, but then she got annoying. So I think it cancels itself out. I don't know. Faith Hill sang the song, which... it neutral for me. And Tom Green did a Pepsi One Comercial which was quite funny, but the Mya coke commercial balances it out. Ooh, and Pepsi gets docked for the commercial with the two little boys watching that chick buy a Pepsi, that was just not a good commercial, and for opposition bashing with the commercial where the kid stands on the two coke cans to buy a pepsi. Pepsi can gain for Faye Wong's song though, it's kinda funky. Hee hee. And then there's the Coke commercial from Denmark... haha, bit near to the edge, but I think it's funny. Hee hee. And the Jan and Dean coke song, definite points there. Very cute. Coke is so much warmer and more welcoming, I think it's because of the red... Ah yes, and while Aretha Franklin did in fact sing the Pepsi song, which is a point for Pepsi, Coke has the coolest african style christmas song plus a christmas radio comercial done by Jars of Clay which is very sweet. Also, Rockapella from "Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?" sang the coke song. And the polar bear? I mean, come on, was that not so cute? Not to metion, coke tastes better... so, there you have it. Coke or Pepsi? Definitely coke. Now do I need to beat you with my stick? |
