1977 Trans Am Restoration

I originally bought this '77 Trans Am back in 1993 from a guy in Oklahoma City.
At the time, it was an ugly brown, had stock wheels, and a tan interior.
Here are some pics of what it looked like when I first bought it in 1993.

Wow, what a beautiful shade of poop brown!

The interior was actually in decent shape, and the seats had recently been recovered in
light tan cloth.

The ugliest part of the whole car was this "custom" hood bird. I had it sanded off a few months
after I bought the car.

Here is the reason I bought this particular Trans Am. Under the hood is an original
Lewis Boyd racing engine. It's a '75 Pontiac 455 bored .030 over, producing 500+ HP. The original cost of
this motor was approximately $7500 when it was built in the late 80's. Although it doesn't
look like much, it was still running very strong in 1993.

Here it is after a bit of cleaning, and adding some chrome here and there.

Here are a few more pics I took immediately after removing the hood bird and adding a new
front air dam.

The only piece of body molding that was missing when I bought the car was the front air dam, and
a friend just happened to have one!
So I quickly added it back to complete the body moldings.

The next thing I did was to dye the dash black, since I couldn't stand the tan interior.
I think it ended up looking very good.

Not long after that, I decided to replace the factory tires and wheels. I didn't have a whole lot
of money, so I went with some "Chrome Nugget" wheels from American Racing.
They actually look nice on this particular car I think, and they shine like mirrors when
polished.

The last thing I did was give it a paint job in 1994. For some reason, I have always had
a thing for charcoal gray, so that's the color I went with, and I was pleasantly surprised
at the finished result.
I sold this car in the summer of 1996, but that's not the end of the story...
