| The Monkey Pub 3/12/05 | |||||||||
| We approached this show more as a practice than a regular gig. It was hard not to. We jumped on the bill at the last minute, and promotion was pretty much nonexistent on anyone's end. Also considering that there is no stage at the Monkey, and tables with seated patrons are thisclose to the playing area, its fairly impossible to do that voodoo that we do so well. Even so, we plowed through our opening slot with as much piss and vinegar as we could muster up following our screamingly weird show in Tacoma the previous night. Note to the Monkey Pub - perhaps a better arrangement would be to have the tables further back, leaving room for the people who want to rock out in front, as opposed to having the band staring down at a table full of smarmy wiseasses, half with their backs to the band. After our set, which prompted a remark that we looked so much like the Ramones, "Its RETARDED!" the Potential H Bombs allegedly played a set of Sex Pistols covers. I say allegedly because they were so wasted it was hard to tell exactly what the fuck they were doing. It was obvious they didn't bother to actually learn the songs, as the singer/guitarist read from cheat sheets, the drummer sounded like he'd never even heard "Never Mind The Bollocks", and the bassist spent more time pounding shots than pounding his bass. I usually try not to tear bands down, but when I see one of my favorite albums of all time shat on I tend to get a little cranky. After that mess, Los Peligrosos redeemed the evening with a reverential set of X covers that reminded me how cool that band was. Though the staff there were totally cool, I think this was our last show at the Monkey. Our thing needs just a little more room to breathe than the space alloted there. |
