Drums was a difficult task

Recording. It is difficult and extremely frustrating, especially if one does it themselves like we did. All in all it payed off but it was a pain in the ass to complete. Let's start at the beginning...

Chapter 1: Deciding on the songs

Now, most bands make 8-11 songs a year, but oh no! Not us! We make anywhere between 8-20 songs a year!! YIKES! So, when we decided to finally make an album we had to narrow our songs down. All songs were listed and it turned out we had 24 songs. After much debating amongst ourselves we narrowed the scope down to the 15 that are on there now. Some of the more "risque" songs such as: "I'm Not Really Gay" were removed but all in all the list is great.

Chapter 2: Figuring out how to record

This was one of the toughest parts. First off we had only one mic that was good enough for recording and we were borrowing it from Nick's Uncle. Turn's out Nick's Uncle also has a sweet drum setup in his basement so we decided to try recording the drums there. His uncle also had more mics than us so we used them while there. After two days of tracking all but a few drum tracks were recorded; however, when we got back to Chris' house to begin guitar and vocal tracking we discovered that the drums didn't sound like we thought they did. We tracked two songs with guitars and it sounded terrible so we scrapped the drums we had just done and decided to start over. We tried and tried to find a way to make the drums sound good with just one mic but it wasn't happening. Laura and the rest of us called it quits for a while...

Chapter 3: Drums from Hell

Several months later, the idea was brought up that we should finish the CD and this time actually do it. With new vigor, we called up our pal Kieth Anderson and asked if he could come help us record the drums (using his and Norman's mics of course). A lot of different sound configurations and positions led us to a sound that was satisfactory and so tracking began...again. Laura was very frustrated at this point and even when she finished it wasn't quite up to her standards. "Too bad," is what we told her and the guitar recording was up, but that wasn't the last of the drums...
