Myths & Facts On Iran
1. Iranians are not Arabs! They neither speak Arabic, nor appreciate being referred to as "Arab." They are Persian!!

2. Irans' national language is Farsi - not of Arabic origin.

3. Many Iranians love Americans, and treat them with hospitality.

4. Iran is not a country made up of nothing but desert. There are snow covered mountains, beaches, forests, etc.

5. Iranian men typically have only one wife.

6. Though Iranian women wear restricting cloths, it does not stop them from enjoying many physical activities, and their own sense of fashion ( scarves and mantos can be different colors, and even cut differently. ) I'm not saying I agree with being covered from head to toe in the heat, but there is creative expression  in other areas such as makeup.

7. The general population of Iran are much more liberal than the government. Most do not agree with many of the harsh limitations enforced by government officials.

8. Iran is quickly becoming one of the most technologicaly advanced countries in the Middle East. Internet cafe's are becoming more widely available, and satellite dishes bring in unlawful channes such as CNN to many families. Kids wear Nirvana tee-shirts and watch MTV.

9. The Zorastrian religion, Iran (or Persias') origional religion, predates all three of today's major religions. There are still a small number of Zorastrians living in Iran.

10. Though Iranians are not "Evil," their government is. The ruling clergy hire police from countries such as Lebanon and Pakistan to act as police, therefore having a force who will not feel guilty shooting Iranians.
I am adding this section in hopes that my friends will be as suprised as I was, when I heard these things for the first time. The following are the answers to the stereotypes I had, before I knew any better.
"We ought to be cautious in this country in separating ourselves as holy or specially endowed by God with some priviledged position to the detriment of others who may live or believe differently from us."
