| So here's what happened.... I've always liked music. I grew up listening to classical music and oldies and all sort of other stuff. I think it was in 5th grade that I first actually started playing an instrument, is was the clarinet. Back then, playing in the school band was more like a way to get out of normal class, then to fullfill some dream with a music carreer. That lasted like that for a while, but then highschool came, and I enrolled in band. Well that just plain sucked. In highschool, it's actually a class period, and it wasn't just band, it was marching band. We had to get up early and practice marching around and then stay after school...and practice marching around. I hated it.....so I stayed in for another year (it was my moms fault (j/k) she thought I should stay in just one more year just to see if I really didn't want to be in it). Well, I didn't, I hated it but I am glad I took it, cause it ended up giving me a disipline in music. It let me hear the beat and feel the beat and it also made me able to hear harmonies (whiched helped in singing later on). So one day at highschool again, I realize that a lot of my friends play guitar, so I decide..."ya know, I should learn". so I go home, and get out my moms classical nylon string guitar and I just started teaching myself how to play. I played to things on the radio, and cd's and stuff. My parents saw how much I liked playing guitar, so they bought me a washburn electric guitar in a starter kit. Then I learned to read tabs, so then my love for guitar really began. What happened next was what would change my way in music forever....I tried to download "barbie gir" by Aqua....but by accident, I downloaded a cover from Homegrown. I hadn't really heared a punk cover up until then. It sounded so sweet. I played it over and over. I showed it to my friend Nathan who also thought it was cool. We thought about it and decided to try to make covers ourselfs. We sang to the cover of barbie girl, and a whole mess of other covers, but soon after, we began writing our own songs. At the time they sounded sweet cause they were ours (even though, they kinda sucked). Then one day in my math class, I was talkin to my new friend Charles, and it turned out he played bass guitar and he was lookin for a band to hook up with, so we did just that. We tried to get a drummer next. My friend Scott played the drums real well, but he had a job and stuff, so he was always pretty busy. So we made flyers and tried to put them around, but that didnt work. One day while sittin around at our friend Holly's house, me and Nathan were talkin about how we were lookin for a drummer, and Holly said how she always wanted to drum. Then Nathan and I had a though....gee....hot girl....wants to be a drummer.....I think we have somthing here. So we went out and bought a Peavey Starter drum set. Next after that, our friend Michelle asked if she could play with us too, since she played guitar for quite a while. This was great, now we had a full band goin....kinda.I soon found out that Charles didn't think too highly of Holly, and Holly didn't like Charles for that....then Michelle, being Holly's best friend, also began to dislike Charles. So when we did practice, it was just Charles, Nathan and me, or Nathan, me, Holly, and Michelle. besides that things were goin pretty well. Holly was learnin the drums pretty well, and Michelle was pickin up my power chord riffs...slowly but surly.During this time, we would dream of being rich and famous, and think of cool things to do. We'd practice, but then things kept comin up with the girls. The'd end up being busy when we were gonna practice. So charles and Nathan and I kept practicing...but then Nathan got into a "situation" with Holly, so that just left Charles and I. This lasted a while. We'd practice at our friend Justin's house. There was also this guy across the street who played drums. He was this older big mexican dude. He was cool, Charles and I would lay down some riffs, and he would play some beats to it. This was the first time we got to play with some loud fast drums. We did this a bunch of times. Around this time, all the thoughts of fame faded, but we had a good drive for the music. It started to become a little more serious as a musical carrear idea than just a rock star dream, but then all the sudden I lost contact with Charles. It turned out that he moved to his grandma's place place across town. I'de drive there sometimes and we'd practice, but it was far, and I didn't have money for gas, so we didn't get together that often. Then Charles moved to San Jose. So band stuff pretty much stopped.....but I still had hope. I still had the drive. So I packed up the drums, moved them to my house, and taught myself how to play those. I borowed a bass from my friend Shrandon, cranked up my amp and I began working some new songs. After a long time of trying to get a clean sound with my cheap mic, I managed to make a demo cd, and I sent it out. So here I am now, still writing songs, hoping that I'll get my chance to play music to my hearts content. It's not about being famous, it's not about being rich, it's just the simplicity of music. To try to play along with the rythm that we live in. I don't mean to sound poetic, that's just how I see it. Thanks. BAM! welp, now I've hooked up with some friends and were a band now, we've already played a show and were workin on a demo. I'll update this maybe sometime but no one ever goes here so.... |
