Representative Tom Tancredo introduced a bill in the U.S. House of Representatives, H.R. 3222, that would limit the amount of H1-Bs based on the national unemployment rate. This is a spectacular bill which is great for engineers, but the ITAA lobbyists are hard at work trying to kill it. The ITAA has been successful so far in keeping the bill from getting a hearing. This is an election year, so the members of the House Immigration and Claims sub-committee will be attentive to pressure applied to them with regards to this. The November Congressional elections are not far away, we need to put pressure on the committee members so that this bill gets a hearing in time to get on the president's desk before the November elections. Here are the members of the sub-committee:

State-District / Congress(wo)man / Party

PA-17 Mr. George Gekas R, Chairman

AZ-1 Mr. Jeff Flake R
CA-26 Mr. Howard Berman D
CA-23 Mr. Elton Gallegly R
CA-48 Mr. Darrell Issa R
CA-16 Ms. Zoe Lofgren (Silicon Valley) D
MA-4 Mr. Barney Frank D
MA-5 Mr. Marty Meehan D
PA-4 Ms. Melissa Hart R
TX-18 Ms. Sheila Jackson Lee D
TX-21 Mr. Lamar Smith R
UT-3 Mr. Chris Cannon R

Go to your representative's office and demand that HR 3222 be given a hearing. You can also send them a letter, e-mail, write, fax or call them. If you live in the district of a sub-committee member, you can do even more to get this pro-engineer legislation passed. If you can think of ways to alert computer user groups and the like in these districts, that would help as well.
