We have a bank account set up at a Namibian bank (First National Bank Namibia) to hold all the money donated to the library. Please email us when sending a check so that we know to expect it and can inform you when it has been received. Thank you!

News and Updates

-09.13.2008 Sorry for the long time without updates. Internet availability is unreliable lately. Also, we were waiting on some donations sent from America for a while. They have finally arrived, so the roof is being installed now. Electricity will be put in next week. After that, we will work on painting the building and putting tiles and windows in. The library is almost finished! Thank you to everyone who has been supporting us along the way!

New pictures are available on the pictures page of the roof construction. The money-raising thermometer is abandoned for now because we should have all the money we need.

-04.06.2008 Construction is coming along. More pictures have been uploaded. We still need a roof to be built, but things are going well.

-02.25.2008 Pictures of the library during construction have been posted on the pictures page.

-02.08.2008 Construction has begun on the new library building. Sand has been dug out for the foundation, and currently bricks are being laid before the cement is poured. Pictures will be added soon.

-11.20.2007 We have acquired about 200 bags of cement and around 15,000 bricks to be used in the construction of the new library building. Commencement of construction will have to wait until the rainy season begins.

-07.05.2007 We spent a few days revamping the current library closet, organizing the books into categories and sections, putting up posters and rules, and implementing a system to check out books.

-05.10.2007 Website created to keep people updated and to assist with fundraising.

Before Pictures

This is how the library looked before any work was done. It was pretty barren. Click a picture for the full-size image.

After Pictures

We have done some work on the library, sorting the current and donated books into categories, affixing them with color-coded labels, decorating the walls with posters and rules, and bringing in a computer for lessons on the encyclopedia available (Encarta), among other tasks. Here is what it looks like now, with learners actually in it. Click a picture for the full-size image.
