THE HISTORY OF THE
"83" CAPRICE
AND UNCLE MAC

Uncle Mac was a Ham Radio Operator & had a personalized Licence Plate "WA6JOI".

This was my Uncle's 12th and final Chevy.
He bought a new Chevy at least every two years.
(three years at the most)

In it's 17 years, My Chevy has had 3 nick names:
"The Big Black Kahuna" - "The Monster"
"The Tank"

This car is a dream to drive.
It turned 100,000 miles on Thanksgiving Day 1997.

Back in the late 1980's Chevrolet
sent out a recall slip on a part to be replaced.
My Dear Uncle blew it off,
even after I told him it was FREE & that I would even take the car in to the dealer.

No! He put his foot down.....
and I paid for it 10 years later,
when we failed the smog test BIG TIME!
I now had to pay for a part that we could have had put in for free.

After the death of my Uncle in 1996 I obtained the car.
I went to DMV to transfer the car to my name.
I paid my fee and then was told to
go to the next window to get my New Plates.
I told the woman I don't want New Plates.
I want the ones that are on the car now.
She told me I could keep them,
but because my uncle was a Ham Radio Operator,
they were concidered Personalized Plates.
So I got my New Plates,
went home & cried as I took off my Uncle's WA6JOI.

But, I refused to put both of the plates away.
One WA6JOI sits in the back window of the Chevy,
and the other hangs in the garage
along side the old yellow & black 1956 Plate.
My Uncle's cars had always had that Plate
& I was not going to stop now.

I have had people asking if I would want to sell my Chevy. I tell them sorry, but I learned to drive in this car.
It belonged to my Uncle & I Love My Chevy.
