Back In the Days
Back in the days
There was always sunshine,
And no rain.
Always happiness,
And no sorrow.
No Pain.
No Hate.
No Loneliness.
Always Tomorrow.

Oh, how I wish I could travel back:
To the days I sat on that old man's lap.
To pigtails that I used to wear
Which Mom had tied up with special care.
To riding on Dad's back,
And sharing the love that never lacked.
To snow forts
And pillow fights
And running free
With our flying kites.

Back in the days.

Of new siblings
And playing catch.
Or making another
Chocolate chip cookie batch.
Of beating up the boys at school,
And always trying to act so cool.
Finding new friends
And secrets to share
And constantly playing
Truth or Dare.

Whatever happened to those innocent days?
The days of incessant laughter and love?
Maybe we never saw the bad things,
And the obstacles we'd have to face.
Or, do we now find it harder
To see the things
And believe the things
An innocent child does,
Here in these days?
