Australia Arrowana, Black Arrowana and Silver Arrowana

Most of the Arrowana are protected species, except Australia Arrowana, Black Arrowana and Silver Arrowana. Arrowana are the largest and the most aggressive fresh water tropical fish that can keep in aquarium. Red Arrowana, Green Arrowana and Gold Arrowana are available in Asian black market only. Correct me, if I am wrong. Hong Kong require license for keeping the Red Arrowana and Gold Arrowana. Moreover, those two Arrowana are classified as extinct species. So far, I only see the Red Arrowana once and Gold Arrowana twice. Moreover, they have Africa Arrowana and some other type as well.

The pricing for the Red Arrowana and Gold Arrowana are very high, you are looking at couple hundred thousand Hong Kong dollars per each, for a baby one. Which is about forty thousand U.S. dollars. The Baby Australia Arrowana is about thirty to fifty U.S. dollars each, the baby Black Arrowana is about seven to ten U.S. dollars each and the baby Silver Arrowana is about five U.S. dollars each. In Southern American Silver Arrowana is not that expensive at all; in fact, people eat Silver Arrowana. They are available in the farmers market near the Amazon River. The Arrowana is not that expensive outside of Chineses community. It is because Chinese people believe that Arrowana bring fortune and power to their owner, especially for the business people.

The water quality for Arrowana is very important. Temperature is about 78 oF to 88 oF. It is better to have a shield to protect the heater, if it is going to place inside the tank. The Arrowana will accidentally swing their tail and hit the heater. If not, the heater would not last too long from those hit. The pH is about 6.8 to 7.2. I recommend not putting any object inside the tank. Moreover, one big thing, your fish tank MUST have a complete cover. The fish likes to jump. I have lost two Arrowana due to this reason. It hurts! The Fish can get up to 30" long easy, so I strongly recommend you to get a tank at least 5 feet long. An efficient filtration is a must; moreover, you might need a host to suck the solid waste out from the bottom of the tank.

Before you buy the baby arrowana, the water in the tank must be running for at least 3 days with filter on. The start up process just like any other fish as well. Water pump and heater need to be turn off before changing water, in order to prevent dry running the water pump and break the heater. Warm water need to be added instead of cold water, in order to prevent sickness. Water conditioner is requiring for every water changes. Feed the fish 24 hours after water changed. Try not to change water during rains.

Arrowana prefer live food such as, feeders, inserts, crickets and warms. They seldom eat dry food. However, they can be trained to take the dry food. Be preparing if you are going to feed them with live food: first they can get big very fast. Second it is very expensive. I remember once, I only feed the baby
Silver Arrowana with feeders (the small gold fish) within 6 months it get to 3 feet long and 8 inches tall. At that time 125 feeders for 5 U.S. dollars, last for 5 days only. However, I like the arrowana, which is about 12" to 18" long.
